Please refresh the site

TLDR: Your customizer must have broken some CSS on my site. I need to start over from scratch. Please refresh it.

    Long explanation:

While setting up this site, I experimented with multiple themes. Now, no matter which theme I select, the default button colour (blue) won’t change. It will be a hassle to change the colour of each button individually for each page I create (I would not have chosen worpdress if I wanted to spend this much time on this kind of detail). This is clearly a bug on your side. If I change the theme palette (to shades of green), the colour of the buttons should change too. This seems obvious to me.

I can even see the right colour of button (green) on the right sidebar of the post when I am editing it (just go in the home page and choose any layout that has buttons), but on the edit page and when published it still shows the wrong colour (blue). It’s probably just a CSS lingering from one of the other themes I tried.

Also note that this only started happening when you started showing me the ‘try and customize’ option in the page to choose themes, which was also when you stopped asking the question ‘do you want to use your existing home page or the theme’s home page?’. By not adding a new page your customizer probably messed up the CSS for the buttons.

I could delete the whole blog and start a new one, but you won’t allow me to keep the URL. (from what I understood, once I delete the blog, the domain is lost for good, which make no sense to me btw)

Can you just refresh this blog and start it over with a clean slate? Just make it as if it were a brand new blog.

    Notes:
    1) this is the free site
    2) site is wcshippo.wordpress.com (unpublished)

  • We can empty the site if that is the direction you would like to go. Please confirm that you understand that all content, images, and customization for wcshippo.wordpress.com will be permanently deleted.

But before you do, just out of curiosity, what browser are you using? Does this happen if you try a different browser? Are you using any browser extensions? Can you try disabling them and seeing if that changes things?

    1) Yes, please go ahead and empty everything. I didn’t have much there anyway.

    2) I am using Firefox (81.0.2) on Ubuntu (16.04).

    3) I tried opening the site in Chrome and the button still shows up as blue.

    4) I disabled all FireFox extensions and the button is still blue.

4a) However, I noticed that the preview of the button (on the right sidebar of the post when I am editing it) became blank. When I enabled all of the extensions again, the preview became green.
I played around disabling and enabling each extension individually until I found the one that made it disappear: Adblock. So, with adblock enabled, the button preview is green. But with adblock disabled, the preview button is white. Strange, but that’s how it’s working (I tested enabling and disabling it several times).

I hope this helps! Thanks for fixing it for me :)

  • I have started the emptying process and will post again here when it completes. Given that there isn’t much on the site, it shouldn’t take long.

  • And it’s done!

Let us know if we can do anything else to assist.

    Hey there,

    Thanks for clearing it out.

Unfortunately, the problem is still happening. It seems to be specific to certain themes though. The “Stowe”, “Ixion” and “Shoreditch” are some good examples.

But I am tired of having to deal with all this, so I decided to chose a different theme (“Exford”) and just work with it.

I hope this tip about the themes helps you further investigate this issue. Here’s a couple more things that can help you (or someone else with the same problem):

    – It seems to me like some themes (such as the 3 I listed above) simply ignore the palette and either keep the buttons the colour they want, or keep them in the colour of the previous theme. Other themes create their own home page and properly assign their colours to the buttons (such as my chosen one, “Exford”).

    – I also found that it helps to create a new blank page and assign it as the home page before changing themes.

You can close this ticket and continue investigating by yourself.

    Thanks again for your help!
