Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format

the # is just to say I know it is a number – there is no # in there…
I think it is because I have the firefox classic editor add on that is causing the issue. Let me back that out and see if that is the case.

    thank you!

nope, that wasn’t it. Something else with my set up is not letting me do this…hmmm….I will have to play with it a bit and if others have any tips to troubleshoot, I will greatly appreciate it – thank you!

I don’t see “open selection” in my options when I right click on “edit” – I see “Open link in new tab”, “Open link in new window”, “Open link in new private window”

Is there another add on or a different version of firefox you all are using?

I got it!! LOL – there is a checkbox that I didn’t check off! check off “always show filter sub-menu” and it shows! Success and many thanks to @knashermac2009 & @kokkieh

    Happy camper now.

I am using the same version @cbiancardi.

You have enabled the add-on haven’t you? (You can still set the menus with it disabled).

  • Unknown's avatar

    @kokkieh
Thank you. I got to the classic. Much relieved.
Here to hoping WordPress will add the button to click back so we don’t have so many hoops…. but until then I can do what I need the way I like better.

The new editor is a complete pain in the butt. I do most, in fact all, of my editing in HTML and the width of the new editor for HTML is just WAY too small. Here I am with a wide screen and completely unable to take advantage of it because the nincompoops who design these sites seem to think everyone is on a smart phone.

I am not on a smartphone – I don’t even own one – and I love my wide screen.

  • I couldn’t get the add-on to work either. Thanks @cbiancardi for figuring it out ;) And thanks @knashermac2009 for the workaround.

I remember last time we danced this new editor dance another user came up with a JavaScript bookmarklet that you can add to your browser bookmarks that does basically the same thing. Again, you have to add a bookmark for every blog you want to use it on. Just click the bookmark every time before you click the New Post or Edit button.

Quickly Googled it and here’s that user’s post how to create the bookmarklet. Add any code to your browser at own risk. https://logfc.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/new-editor-in-wordpress-and-how-to-circumvent-it/

would starting a simple petition (signatures only) on this site work? or is that sedition and somehow against the rules?

    How?

  • Unknown's avatar

I dunno, anything that gets too threatening tends to be shut down, or am i exaggerating?

  • Unknown's avatar

    or am i exaggerating?

    Maybe yes (a little).

But I’ve never seen a petition with signatures in the forums. Never.

  • Unknown's avatar

@ galois That was kind of my point. But I think we may be heading for that.

  • Unknown's avatar

I believe you can make a petition somewhere (Change org or similar) And the users will sign it.

I do not know if it will be a real solution, but can be a good try.

Now we know why they introduced the link to the old editor, a few months ago; due to the overwhelming user outrage. Their plan was always to phase out the old editor and now that the outrage has gone, they removed the link.

This sneaky way of treating your users is intolerable, and this is the last straw for me. I’m moving to a paid server. At least there, I will not be played like that every few weeks.

I opened this discussion to see if there was a solution to the slower new editor (ie: maintaining the classic editor option).

I can see that this is not going to change. Even though the problems I am experiencing are not happening on all websites, they are sufficiently inconvenient and time-consuming to force me to publish far less each day.

I contemplated purchasing my website, but even so, I would still be confronted with the same editing challenges.

I respect WordPress. I have helped dozens of friends set up websites here.

I tried Windows Live Spaces and Google before coming to WordPress and however disappointing the new changes may be, WordPress is still superior to the other free options currently available.

    What I cannot comprehend:

Traffic to my websites is content driven. Now that I am forced to reduce the amount published each week, I will have a corresponding loss of visitors to my websites, which will also mean less revenue from each website for WordPress.

Although I cannot understand the advantage this new platform may hold for WordPress, it must be more important than increased traffic and ad revenue.

FWIW-This thread is a petition. So far a total of 17 people have “signed”.

    Yep!

    justjennifer,

I have been in the dashboard of 2 websites that have been purchased to help with their set-up and they have the same problems…the same new editor.

It would be helpful if people who own their WordPress powered websites commented.

    Where I stated :

If you have Ghostery and NoScript, note what shows up in the list of scripts blocked. Check what each of those scripts are used for, especially Kissmetrics.

    Check out Automattic in Wikipedia.
