Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format

    @timetheif
    I only quoted you and your use of “hammerhead”, please reference your own post that I responded to, as well as my response to you. You posted the term in quotes referring to the fact you did not want to be one.
    I never said the purpose of the forum was to become one, nor did I coin the term. I responded to you as I feel that the forum should stay open as it has helped me tremendously as a forum to learn how to find the classic editor as it will others in the future.
    I am not a “hammerhead”, the people here are not “hammerheads”.
    Thank you.

    @galois
    I challenge that.

    What’s questionable is the notion that this thread is anything but a support thread. The OP’s question has been answered. The main question was answered on May 18th.

    What’s questionable is the notion that stating the same opinion over and over again in a support thread where the OP’s question has been answered will eventually produce a reversal.

    What’s questionable is inviting anyone to stop posting unless they become a hammerhead and I did not do that.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Well I have a long history of being a hammerhead … but I try to do so with grace and humor and to avoid invective

    My lodestar and heroine is Antigone … and her wonderful statement

    “When I have tried and failed, I shall have failed.

    ( Of course I try not to dwell on Antigone’s end … ahem )

    @fearsomebeard

    I am not a “hammerhead”, the people here are not “hammerheads”.

    Agreed. We are all just bloggers who hate the decision Staff have made.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @nikkitytom

    ( Of course I try not to dwell on Antigone’s end … ahem )

    That truly made me lol, Tom. For years I was an environmental activist and I did lots of hammering about saving first growth trees while the woodpeckers outside my windows hammered away.

  • Unknown's avatar

    What’s questionable is inviting anyone to stop posting unless they become a hammerhead and I did not do that.

    But you’re inviting the thread is closed. And I disagree. Very simple, very clear.

  • Unknown's avatar

    We have to be careful … you can be sure if WP can find an excuse to close the thread, it will be done. We mustn’t give them any excuses.

    @timethief …. now you have me laughing and remembering. The first time I ever got arrested was for plastering myself around a tree which was being chopped down. Eventually they peeled me off and led me away. ( But I won eventually, because chopping trees over ten years old on city streets was eventually banned )

    Hi again,
    I have a right to pose my on-topic question to jerermeylduvall in this thread and I am not withdrawing it.

    From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/22?replies=667#post-2327773

    @jeremeylduvall
    This thread was created March 13th. We have known since March 18th that the link Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. Has this thread reached it’s end as a useful one? I’m asking because those who have not posted here previously have to scroll and through 22 pages of dialog to find what they want to know. And, what they want to know is here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/22?replies=636#post-2327762

  • Unknown's avatar

    Well, timethief, Jeremey will jump at your suggestion and consign this discussion to memory, or rather oblivion.

  • Unknown's avatar

    The topic still remains …. there are a considerable number of concerned users of Word Press who would like to see a choice being offered. There is no need to enumberate the flaws in the new Editor … they are obvious.

    The power of this thread is precisely the enormous number of posts displayed here. I can’t remember any other topic which has garnered so much response. The outcry against the dreadful Stats page was much less … we have sheer volume going for us here.

  • Unknown's avatar

    And 99 separate posters.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ah, finally finished.
    Here’s the list of workarounds all in one place:

    Making it look nice is a secondary concern. The important thing is that the content is all there.
    Feedback is welcome.

    Heads up

    The new system plants Rest-Api cookies on our computers. The new UI including Editor will not work otherwise.

    The Rest-Api system provides extensive intorrogation of our blogs/comments/likes and the ID’s of visitors, to anybody. It also reveals login/user-names of any who hid their login names behind a display-name.

    It’s further purpose is to allow, with permission, a service company (e.g. printing service) to download from a media library or a developer to have full access. Full details are here:-

    Why have we been kept in the dark ?

    • The topic is appropriate in this forum because the new editor is malfunctioning and creating a host of technical problems and website glitches for users.
    • Being a support issue, it needs to be resolved. The March 18 option is not a solution. It’s just another facet of this problem.
    • Every comment has valuable information and users have contributed more than opinions. They have given the WordPress developers a vital and detailed assessment of their product and they provided their service to the staff and other users free of charge.
    • Reinstate the classic editor button.
    • Keep the classic editor.
    • Keep this discussion open.
    • Don’t give up or be deterred by WordPress volunteers or staff. If anyone doesn’t like the topic they are free to ignore it.
    • Obviously, from the pages of intelligent responses from users, this is the most pressing technical issue with the WordPress platform right now.

    I’ve unsubscribed to this forum. I get the message: Classic editor is over. I’m just popping in to say thanks to everyone for the moral support. Thanks to the community members who have offered technical solutions. I’ve found tempen’s to be simplest, although, duh, I thought I had it when I did not have it. I’m also working on two different computers, one at work and one at home, so I confused myself. Won’t go into the details.

    The Penguin’s tech laden page presented a challenge. I assumed that the insertion of the script that was part of his or her (?) workaround was ‘not’ in the very tech heavy post I found there. (There was a line about our not needing to read it if we aren’t coders or something. So I just skimmed it.) When I found my editor switching back and forth, as it was doing before the workaround, I realized that I missed a step and didn’t have the workaround. (dandelionsalad sort of suggested that to me, but I still didn’t have a clear idea what I missed.) Then I revisited Penguin’s site and read more carefully, found the [install] and clicked on it. Voila!

    Good luck to all of us!

    I’m glad this post is still here, and as a person who barely looks around WordPress except to do my own posts on my own blog – i’m saddened.

    I’m chiming in cause i wanted to make sure that it was known that there are users who are usually quiet and on the site – and they dont normally speak out. I have three other friends on site, and they also do not like this new change – but can give or take dealing with this due to them having twitter and tumblr – as do i. WordPress allowed me a private way to communicate and keep things up for me and especially keep my old blog posts from when i migrated from MSN blogs.

    Now with this new piece, it isnt just the editor that i’m having a HUGE problem with. It’s the admin page, where nothing is clickable – and i’ve tried all the the things suggested to help atm. I’m just going to wait a lil while and see if some one has an error like mine – as i have done before.

    But as i said – depressing that they dont just have the same duo implementation as before.

    @timethief

    this is a support forum where bloggers post questions and receive answers to them

    What is your idea of “support”? Do I get something wrong in my knowledge of English? To me, “support” doesn’t mean a (simple) answer but HELP. And help is what we have NOT got. Everybody is crying out to have the easy access (link) to the classic editor restored. “Support” in its true meaning would have been staff doing exactly that. But out of sheer muleheadedness they refuse. Conclusion: we don’t get SUPPORT here. So, my suggestion to WP: do not longer lie to us users and call this rigmarole her “support forum”.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Since this is a forum for help with technical issues, the topic is relevant.

    I petition WordPress to:

    a) reinstate the button for instant access to the classic editor

    b) keep the classic editor

    c) reward the millions of unpaid beta testers who provide critiques and feedback on new features by listening to them.

    d) keep the thread open and pin it to the main page. It’s a valuable resource on this urgent and unresolved technical issue.

    “Hey WordPress, you’ve produced a vastly inferior editor in the new editor and you have a vastly superior editor in the Classic Editor.

      You’ve also created an entirely unnecessary problem by limiting the means by which one can access the vastly superior Classic Editor.

    You also have an incredibly simple set of solutions that mean the entire problem can be quickly resolved by simply reinstating the previously link to the Classic Editor or by creating a set of even better and improved links to the same. I look forward to you growing out of your stubborn and immature peevishness and simply honestly acknowledging the problems you have created for yourselves in these matters, and thereby resolving them in the best manner possible.

    WordPress, this is not a difficult to solve problem at all, except in your own minds. Which I encourage you to exercise for the purposes of simplistic problem solving. Because exercise is good for you.”
