Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format
-
The poll was a good idea. As it stands today there are ,
243 votes
161 – 67% want the new editor scrapped
65 – 27% love the classic editor and will never switch
17 – 7% don’t want the classic to go. they want to have a choice between the classic and new editorsNo votes yet for liking the new editor or being indifferent.
Geographic distribution of votes is fairly widespread.
I don’t remember any survey done by WordPress about the new editor. The only thing I’ve seen is the 5 min survey which is if you like WordPress and would you recommend it to other bloggers.
Did I miss the survey the happiness engineers referred to? Is it still up so we can fill it out?
Basing a survey on stats of usage are irrelevant because they designed the dashboard to take us to the new editor every time we login. So their stats don’t reflect our choice, only theirs, so that doesn’t count as a legitimate survey. Sneaky.
-
Objectively, though, this survey is also very biased, although it might be useful in counting the number of people who don’t like the new editor.

Actually ALL polls are biased. By wording, by positioning of choices on a list and even by where they appear. Just remember all the useless election polls we’re subjected to regularly. Obviously this poll is attached to a forum in which people are protesting the new changes. It is a compendium of those people. And is perfectly fair and valid as such.
But WP doesn’t want polls. And are so afraid of people rejecting their new changes that they hide option access. Look at how they promote their “upgraded” version on the Stats page … and the “Switched to the improved posting experience” on the Editing page.
“Upgraded” and “Improved” are cheap ad words used by tacky companies on late night TV ad spaces.
And at the very bottom of the stats page we can go back to the “old” version …. Not the “classic” version. Ever hear the word “old” used in advertising. Well there’s a reason for it. And there’s NO choice at all on the editing page.
How’s that for manipulation? Then of course take your numbers from the fact that most people just complain and don’t protest. WP has NO way of assessing how many people would choose the classic editor if they offer NO choice.
It’s an outrageous scam. And it’s perpetrated by the smug assurances that the majority actually like this change. Utter nonsense. Give us a choice, with a fair and equal access. And THEN see what the results are. That’s a fair poll and assessment.
This is not. This is force-feeding. WIth the added insult that we’re being told we have to like it and won’t be fed anything else.
We could even say the relative difficulty of locating these forums is another arm-twist/muzzle. There’s no encouraging “speak up and let us know what you think” ANYWHERE. Just the added insult of “happiness engineers” which is just as amateur as that “beep boop” idiocy.
Speaking up is what WP prefers not to encounter.

@nikkitytom Well said.
I have a fairly simple question. If one migrates to .org, what is the editor? The old, something new or neither?
-
It’s the Tiny MCE editor that is bundled into the WordPress.ORG software install ie. the one you are accustomed to using (classic editor).

@leeinblack
@zaosan
@epages
@mudiwamudiwaThanks for the feedback.
Please know this isn’t my poll. It belongs to all WordPress members who’ve been frustrated by the new editor and blocked by a zillion workarounds from accessing the classic editor.
Objectively, though, this survey is also very biased, although it might be useful in counting the number of people who don’t like the new editor.
I used members comments as a guide to choosing questions. The options cover all the choices as far as I’m aware. If I missed something, even though I can’t change it now, it’s certainly worth bringing to this discussion.

I never saw any survey and I’m in WordPress every day.

That’s why I created the poll. It’s intended to be transparent and give WordPress users a first hand public view of the statistics based on their actual votes, rather than having bogus administrator stats thrown at us that are rigged.

See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/17?replies=688#post-2323280I asked:
As I now know you and the whole crew of WordPress.COM Staff are committed to this project, may I please have straight answers to these questions:
1. Is the long term game plan to develop the new editor here at WordPress.COM and then bundle that new editor into WordPress.ORG software installs in the future?
2. If the answer is yes (don’t equivocate please) then will WordPress.ORG software users be able to remove it from their installs and use the TinyMCE editor instead?
jeremeylduvall replied:
That is not the plan at the moment as far as I know. The New Editor is being developed for WordPress.com although you can use it to add posts to your self-hosted sites provided they’re connected through Jetpack.

Thanks. I call that equivocation. Here’s another idiocy with the new editor, by the way (on Chrome on a Mac). These needs staff attention. You can do Apple z to undo a wrong keystroke. Fine. Then, if you do Apple z again (to undo the PREVIOUS keystroke) …. the entire contents of the editing window just vanish!!
You have to go back in to get them back (making sure you don’t do a save first).

I use only the classic editor so I’m not impacted by any limitations that the new editor has. I know how to get to the classic editor and how to use it to create and edit posts like everyone else protesting here does.I recognize that Staff will definitely continue to improve the new editor until they reach their goal. I also recognize that each new iteration has the potential to give rise to negative responses like my own original responses and that those will be from a minority of the thousands (ten of thousands) who have blogs hosted by WordPress.COM.
Earlier in this thread you can note that sensuouscurmudgeon and I did the same thing. We diverted our attention from protesting and we each have a contingency plan in place. We hired a web host and set up WordPress.ORG installs, which are set to private, so we can move out domains and content if needs be. Perhaps you may want to look into doing the same.

I appreciate that feedback on the survey/vote.

This is a chance to make a choice. Voice your protest while the vote and discussion stay open. Complaints are useless. Protests can create change. Either it changes the minds of WordPress administration or it decisively shifts public opinion about the value of WordPress services.

@davidderrick
The recommended web hosts are here http://wordpress.org/hosting but they are not the only good ones. I have used and I do like A Small Orange. https://asmallorange.com/hosting/shared/ Their shared hosting packages are reasonably priced. My experience is that A Small Orange support is outstanding so I recommend checking them out.That said, I do have full confidence that once this bumpy roller coaster ride is done and the final iteration has been debugged, WordPress.COM staff will have created a rockin editor that will rival the classic editor.

Learning how to manage you won WordPress.ORG install, like learning anything new does involve a learning curve. As long as one remains calm and does not go nuts with plugin installation (there are many bad ones out there) it’s not that difficult. However, my preference is to be hosted here 7 Reasons Why I Like WordPress.com Hosting, and they are why I have not made the move back to self hosting again. -
Edit: you won was meant to be your own
I apologize for not catching that error. My eyes are tired. -
I’m appalled that pages of comments were deleted. Who determined what had value and of value to whom?
If off-topic comments were the target why are so many left in place?
Any discussion that’s not about the challenges with the new editor are off topic, including diversionary tactics used by volunteers to obfuscate the total impact of this thread, including suggestions for purchasing web hosts and domains while running still the WordPress platform.
It’s a cleverly disguised sales pitch but you don’t fool me.
Resist, revolt, refuse to support a corporation that doesn’t care about clients.
Our push for the reinstatement of the quick access to the classic editor is the litmus test.
Does WordPress still have integrity or have they sold out and sold us out in the process?
If I leave it will be because the WordPress agenda has become antithetical to my ethics.
To be true to myself, I will choose a whole new set-up that supports me and my work, with no hidden agendas and where support means support and there’s no Orwellian doublespeak.
Brilliant idea. I cast my vote today. Thanks for setting it up.

Bloody Hell!
I clicked “Edit” on my latest post, to insert a comma that I had omitted.
The amended post had no paragraphs!
I had to go to WP Admin/Posts/All Posts/select the post/Edit.
To restore the paragraphs with single line spacing I had to use a trick that someone mentioned here: Instead of just “Enter” you have to use “Shift, Enter”, otherwise you get a line skipped.
When I went to My site/ View site to see the result, I found that I had missed some of the paragraphs, so I had to do it all again.
(Yes, there is provision on the edit page to “View Post” but I want to use “View Site” because “View Post” does not show “Continue reading”.)
This second “View site” did not have the second amendments. I could not view the site without closing the edit window, which came with a warning that I would lose the contents of the edit page.
I think my “error” was to hover over “My site” and slide the mouse down to “View Site”. What I should have done is click on “My Site”, wait for the screen to change to the “Statistics” page, and click on “View Site” on that page.This is madness!
