This isn’t a minor UI tweak. This is like a completely different package than the one I purchased.
I don’t like Tumblr, I don’t want a UI like Tumblr.
We should have the option to choose, and configure “Advanced UI” and “Simple UI” – and set it and forget it.
This is more than just moving a few things around. Stuff doesn’t work, you can’t use it easily.
I’d love some updates about this. Thanks!

Yeah, I have to admit that I wondered for a sec if some kind of insider deal was happening. That does happen in the corporate world. Sometimes it works out fine. Other times it just means that some crappy thing is passed on to consumers because some uncaring jerk wants to make some money.
Good thing about USA and my country, Canada, is that there’s a free market in place. So eventually a company goes under if its corporate strategy doesn’t match actual developments.
Companies have the right to make whatever changes they want. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they will maintain the loyalty and respect of customers.
I signed up for WordPpess and have invested years of my time in it. I did so because it wasn’t dumbed down like Blogger was at the time. If WordPress dumbs down then, in a way, they have sort of slighted all of us who have invested our time and energy into the company on the basis of it NOT being a moronic blogging platform.
I’ll just change if I have to. Hopefully that won’t have to happen. More time and energy… :)

Until this morning I could use Chrome and still get the classic editor, and now…the ‘new blue beep pop’ is it. Someone voiced the opinion that it’s geared for pre-teens or tweens. Maybe so, but I’m outraged at the lack of choice, especially after having updated to premium a year or so ago.
How likely is it that those of us who now have hundreds of diaries on our websites are likely to try to move? I wish I could, and could ask for my money back.
I feel as ripped off as I did when Twitter (iirc) bought Posterous, and I had to move, especially as their promise to help migrate our diaries to a new venue was bogus in the extreme.

Just checked the petition … and there are now 1548 responses with an overwhelming 1536 wanting the Classic … or Choice
That’s a lot of people who’ve found their way to these obscure forums hidden in the WP general format. And a lot who’ve clicked onto the poll/petition. Plus a new cadre of posters here who are clear and concise about exactly why they’ve rejected the new version.
Anyone listening?
Let’s keep the impetus rolling … we’re gaining steam.

I just would like to say that compliance with standard WordPress was THE reason for me to start blogging at WordPress.com.
If WordPress.com will proceed with switching off the standard WordPress dashboard and editor I will move my blog to my private website.
I have been holding introductions to blogging with WordPress.com in adult education for some years, but we discuss stopping those courses due to the editor/dashboard mess.
I was wondering if you might know how many students would be taught a different platform instead of WordPress because of the new editor. This information is solid data that would really help us in gathering statistics and real time user experience ratings.
Today I see 1671 responses. 1112 want to see the new editor scrapped. 467 will only use the Classic editor. 180 don’t mind if both editors are available as long as they have choice. 5 like the new editor. 7 don’t care.
Feedback comes from US, Canada, Russia Bulgaria, Greece, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, Moldova, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Ireland, Scotland, Palma, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Tasmania.
I think this week we need to promote the petition~vote beyond this forum thread so we can reach more of the WordPress community.

I’d still like to know where WordPress gathered their statistics that they insist prove that users vastly prefer the new editor. Directing us to the new without choice isn’t a vote. Offering us workarounds aren’t a choice. The workarounds get more unstable and difficult as they push the new and the writing’s on the wall. They intend to scrap the classic.
Just like they broke their promise not to remove the quick access link to it.If anyone has a link to a survey they’ve posted about the new editor, can you point the way? The only survey I’ve ever seen was the 5 second asking if you liked WordPress and would you recommend it. That survey disappeared after the new editor was given a front row seat and the classic was buried in the hard to find background.

@mudiwamudiwa
Staff can witness all of our user activity. For example, without surveying me, they can see that I use only the classic editor when creating and editing posts in all my blogs, registered under more than one username accounts. Consequently, they are aware that I have not been negatively impacted by any of the limitations of the new editor. -
Oh goody. I can just imagine the staff carefully examining my user activity. There they are at their desks watching all our activities. Avidly.
They can watch me scrolling endlessly down that stupid stats page to find the “choice ” to go back to the old one. They can see me clicking and clacking at that damned “SItes” to get my DASHBOARD … and not just be steered right back to the horrible “upgraded” stats page. Why can’t my SITE lead me to my DASHBOARD. I don’t want to see the stats, I want to get to my DASHBOARD.
If the staff is witness to all this, then they’re certainly not taking it into account.
Watch Staff … while I jump through hoops to get to where I want to go. Watch me click and clack and scroll …. I wish these guys could HEAR me as I do this. Then they’d be witness to a lot of swearing in five different languages … I switch from one to another when I run out of curses and imprecations.
Anyone here have a bridge for sale?

If you go to the Classic Dashboard, and click the Site stats link there in the menu on the right hand side, you get to the Classic stats.These are courtesy of musicdoc1
1. https://YourImmenselyPopularWebsiteName.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
2. https://wordpress.com/my-stats/ — “My Stats” was introduced about three years ago. Warnings that the older stats page would soon be eliminated came and went. And yet the old page standsl, working just as well as ever. -
-
@nikkitytom
On my Classic Dashboard I clicked the screen options link in the top right hand corner of the page. Under “Show on screen” I clicked to include “Stats” and I have another handy way to get the classic stats display now. Maybe you ought to try those 3 suggestions that do work well for me out. -
@nikkitytom @timethief
I wasn’t going to mention this here because the thread is about the new editor and not the stats page, but since it’s come up, I want to mention some of the workarounds that I have:- Redirect script (similar to the one for the editor)
- Make the “Visit the old stats page…” button more visible (brings it to the top)
- Widen the new stats page

@tpenguinltg
What took you so long? ;) Now it’s time for you to publish a post for us followers. BTW have you located this link? This such fun (cracking up here). :D -
This is really the heart of the problem with Word Press and the new “updates”. There are indeed workarounds … which require installing extra programs or roundabout ways of reaching items we need to use regularly.
We don’t want to have to go through these gymnastics. We simply want the ability to CHOOSE …. whether it’s the classic editor or the classic stats page. SImply giving us the CHOICE would solve the problem once and for all.
WordPress built its reputation on its general feeling of “professionalism” not for being funky or cool. It was the yardstick for serious bloggers all over the world. We simply would like to see it maintaining that high quality platform,.
If developers want to be coold and trendy … that’s fine. But don’t scrap the options the more serious bloggers need and want.
Workarounds shouldn’t be required of those of us who are serious bloggers. We shouldn’t be airily dismissed in favor of a trendy market wtih a loyalty span of a nano-second.
Classic Bloggers want the Classic option.

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that it’s getting more difficult to just get where you want. It used to be that a click or maybe two would get you to whatever feature you wanted. Now I seem to get lost in the dashboard, making at least five clicks to get where I want. And the nature of screw up seems to differ every day. WP is just short of a navigational nightmare these days.
Then it occurred to me. They might want this. Either (a) they are lost in their own changes or (b) making navigation cumbersome gives the appearance of more traffic/activity at their site. And this would look good on corporate indexes.
So if it’s (b), they would be using our time, bandwidth and frustration to artificially bolster their corporate ranking via sort of phony stats re WP traffic/activity.
Again, I don’t know which it is. I hope they clean the mess up asap. I used to love WP. It still is good. But it seems that something really is going wrong.

This such fun (cracking up here). :D
While you might find this amusing, I certainly do not. Other users in this forum have spent time carefully explaining the hardships that this new editor is causing them. Many with technical expertise have critiqued the beta version and determined it to be defective.
Everyone who has commented are frustrated with WordPress administrators and volunteers that discredit our efforts to be heard.
Hundreds of people, in just the past 2 days have unanimously demanded that either WordPress get rid of the new editor, reinstate immediate access to the Classic editor and ensure our choice holds for an entire working session. This outstanding response came without anyone promoting the petition.

No. I hate the new editor. It’s defective. It should be scrapped.
1083Never. I love the Classic editor and it works for my professional website.
477No. I want to be able to choose and keep both editors active.
182We do not have to install software we do not want just so we can access the Classic editor. What nonsense! It is unreasonable, even irrational, that WordPress should expect us to revamp our computers so we can access preferred features. No other free blogging platform makes such ridiculous demands of their clients.

What took you so long? ;)
They have been posted in various places for a while, actually, but nobody noticed. See here, here, here, and here.
I do plan on making a summary page like the one I did for the editor eventually, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s not as high on the priority list because there’s still an inconvenient but relatively easy way to get back to the old stats page.BTW have you located this link?
At least their benefits look nice.
From the link:Data-informed, user-driven · For every feature we launch, we gather metrics about its usage, interaction, and growth in addition to listening to the masses of feedback we get on our blog and through support. This helps us inform decisions about where things need to go. It’s not uncommon to launch a feature and then revise it several times over the next week.
We have a one-button deploy system for WordPress.com, and we push code to the site 60-80 times a day.
Make what you will out of that.
