Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format
-
This isn’t helpful for members who simply demand the quick access link be reinstated.
I don’t think anyone wants to negotiate workarounds anymore than they will accept being forced to install programs on their computer just to make working here possible.
We are well beyond that.
The objective of the title of this topic has not changed and the matter is not resolved:
“Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format”

I absolutely can’t reasonably publish and update my site in a reasonable amount of time with the new editor as is. I have to have all the features of the old editor or I have to leave WP. So. . .
Is the old editor going to remain available for the foreseeable future?
If so, when are you going to reinstate normal access to it? (I don’t have a button that let’s me go back to it when the new one comes up and I don’t want to have to wait for the new one to load, then press a button, then wait while the old one loads anyway. I have figured out that — for now — if I pull up the list of all my posts and add a new one from that list I can still get to the old editor.
I’d like answers from someone who actually works for and has full knowledge of what WordPress is planning. Not speculation from someone who is just guessing.

oneworldtree- the poll doesn’t seem to be working, count me in as wanting the old editor!

the poll doesn’t seem to be working, count me in as wanting the old editor
I noticed the poll was in a different format from this morning. Instead of all the results appearing on 1 page, you have to click “next” to see the graphs and map. Maybe that interrupted access?
The poll is working but if you have NoScript in your browser you need to right click to open the menu and choose “temporarily allow all this page” so you can vote. More websites block Tor too so if you vote with that browser you likely won’t have success.

No. I hate the new editor. It’s defective. It should be scrapped.
1131Never. I love the Classic editor and it works for my professional website.
477No. I want to be able to choose and keep both editors active.
183Yes. I like the new editor.
5I don’t care.

I’d still like to know where WordPress gathered their statistics that they insist prove that users vastly prefer the new editor. Directing us to the new without choice isn’t a vote. Offering us workarounds aren’t a choice. The workarounds get more unstable and difficult as they push the new and the writing’s on the wall. They intend to scrap the classic. Just like they broke their promise not to remove the quick access link to it.
If anyone has a link to a survey they’ve posted about the new editor, can you point the way? The only survey I’ve ever seen was the 5 second asking if you liked WordPress and would you recommend it. That survey disappeared after the new editor was given a front row seat and the classic was buried in the hard to find background.
I’ve posed that question a few times in this thread because if such a survey is available, I’d love to respond to it and add the link to the petition.

@imperialtwilight
Thanks for putting up the poll. I’ve voted [pro classical editor], too, even if I don’t believe we’ll have any success, no matter how many people vote. To my mind we can get 5,000 or 10,000 or 100,000 votes for the old editor, but that won’t be of any interest at all to the developers at WP. They’re pushing their new editor no matter what. The only way that might, just might, convince them would be if hundreds of thousands of users would quit WP. But that will never happen. -
Why does the poll have two options for the same thing (keeping the Classic Editor)? It is diluting our vote to keep the Classic.

Thanks for the petition. I’m 1831 against the new editor.
I can’t find a survey from WordPress but there is an extensive archive of complaints.

I added you links to the post leading to the petition. A veritable hall of shame.
travelgalcindy reported she couldn’t vote. I just heard from a friend whose vote didn’t go through either. If anyone else runs into trouble can you let me know on this thread?

I’m still a bit puzzled at exactly what type of user this dog’s breakfast is aimed at. People say “smartphones and tablets”, but I just looked at the WP App (which is surely what people would use) and it actually looks OK! One major plus point is that it fires up immediately without the BBB message.
I would really like one of the WP seniors to come on here (or anywhere) and explain the reasons behind BBB.

@wpvins I wouldn’t be ready to throw in the towel on this. Nor to underestimate the power of protest.
Several years ago many “discussion” groups online published the real names of the posters without clearly stating that there was an option for a “screen” name. Signing up screens often just asked for name and email address without making it clear one had the option for a “screen name” . One lady’s honest and very personal confidences on a women’s issue popped up in a Google search under her real name. Being naive and new to the Internet, she had no idea it would be broadcast all over the net.
She was horrified when a Google search produced her comments. and she contacted the site responsible. Pleading that they remove her posts. Someone on the staff listened to her and removed the posts. But almost overnight the sign-in procedure was amended to give an option of using a screen name and a very clear statement that the name would be published.
Not sure whether there were more protests …. but I know my single complaint brought a resolution in less than a week. And one which rapidly extended from the one site I had posted on … to standard practice online.
Never underestimate the power of protest. Because sometime someone sees reason and sanity behind that protest and changes are indeed made. I never join a protest with the idea it will fail no matter what I do. I sit and remember the many protests which bore fruit. “I Mua” Forward

Anyone using the user script by tpenguinltg? I tried editing a post tonight and it took me to the “new, too-blue-to-use, BBB” editor.
Also, thanks for making the poll, I also voted in it for the first option.

Never mind my last comment about the user script, for some unknown reason Greasemonkey was turned off. It’s back on and working again, thankfully.

The success of your poll is so well done. I voted and will be spreading it as much as I can.
It has now become well worth the effort with every probability that, given some effort, it will become very widespread amongst those who have been frustrated and can now find an outlet
If WP ignore these results it will show that they are divorced from there clients and any good business sense. The latter will have it’s own impact in the marketplace.
Good job. :-)

Voting, for those new to the forum, this has a lot of support and is very worthwhile:-

Wow … 1948 votes … we’re closing in on 2000. Thanks so much for all your work on this.

I no longer enjoy designing new posts. I dread trying to find my way around the hurdles, even for replying to comments or trying to find if someone replied to my comment on their post. Whoever is responsible for these lazy “improvements” should be replaced.
WordPress is devolving.
Twice today I selected ‘new post’ on the upper right drop down menu, which took me to the HORRID new stats page… I didn’t ask for stats, I asked to write a new post…
I truly don’t understand why they’re being mute/hard headed and keep trying to fix something that was not broken. What would happen if everyone stopped posting for a week to ten days? That’s easy for me, as after getting an inferior beepbeep bop new post page, I crossed it off and am abandoning it for the day.
There are better things to do than be frustrated with hurdles every time I try to see stats or answer comments or write a new post.

Have I missed an answer from WP folks as to WHY they removed the button that allowed us to simply select the classic editor? Is there a clear reason why this option was removed? It was infinitely better than the new editor. What is wrong with continuing to give users the option?
-
Have I missed an answer from WP folks as to WHY they removed the button that allowed us to simply select the classic editor?
No you haven’t missed an answer. WP said they had removed it and it wasn’t coming back. No explanations were given, despite many many requested.
There is a poll here if you want to register your opinion

@nikkitytom
I sure hope you’re right. But I’m keeping in mind what one of the “happiness engineers” said here earlier: the button to switch to the classical editor will never return, and that’s it.
I’m afraid any mule is flexible-minded compared to the developers at WP. In fact, calling them “mule-headed” would be an insult to mules.
