Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format

  • Unknown's avatar

You do have an option to op out of it or use it. At top of your edit page there is a link called Screen options. Click on it to REVEAL a check box option to enable, or to disable. If you don’t want to use the new page uncheck the box.

@telltales4su, who are you replying to?

You do have an option to op out of it or use it.

and what do you mean by “it” above?
The beep boop editor? There is no ability to choose the beep boop editor when I hit Screen Options in the classic editor. I am not about to go to the beep boop editor but I doubt you can choose to go to the classic editor under Screen Options, surely that would just pertain to screen options in whatever editor is being used…

  • Unknown's avatar

Regarding the lart 2 comments, I see NO screen options in the Beep beep boop. And there is no checkbox in the classic editor to tick about staying in classic.

My desire… “KEEP BOTH EDITORS AND ALWAYS GIVE US A LINK TO SWITCH FROM ONE TO ANOTHER”

Overall, I love WP, and would rather not change. But things like this tend to send me over a cliff. So I repeat, PLEASE…

KEEP BOTH EDITORS AVAILABLE FOR US… ALWAYS…

Quick way to go to Classic… add the following to your blog URL:

    /wp-admin/post-new.php

    Example:

    yourblogURL/wp-admin/post-new.php

Meant to mention that you should bookmark, yourblogURL/wp-admin/post-new.php for easy access.

    @Staff
Please take note of the many threads on this issue and close them all except for one. I am asking because there are bloggers posting to more than one thread and even creating new ones.

  • Unknown's avatar

Please reinstate the classic format. It makes posting, proofreading and editing much easier. Please. Thank you.

I asked staff why it was removed. Whenever I write to WordPress staff, whoever answers is helpful. The answer to “why” is:

“It was removed as hardly anyone uses it anymore.”

Really? Hardly uses it? :( I think not.

  • Unknown's avatar

@nykeypad – really? They said that? They need to read this forum – haha

  • Unknown's avatar

Please reinstate the Classic Editor Mode/Option so that it can be accessed from any and all new post link(s).

The new editor is inefficient and insufficient. It should be very easy to design an option that lets the user decide which editor they prefer.

  • Unknown's avatar

PLEASE add my voice to those who do not like the new editor at all. The old one did not need fixing, nor did the stats page. I would think that asking for opinions from your users BEFORE making such changes would be much the better practice.

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t mind the new editor but like many, having TWO DIFFERENT EDITORS open depending on what you do is VERY confusing! I just don’t know why I see the ‘black bar’ editor from some things and ‘blue bar’ new style (for arranging pages etc.) from others? It’s tough enough for some of us to keep things straight without having two differently laid out dashboards and not sure how we got from one to the other! (And why does everything have to open a new tab? Are there any settings to change that some where?)

  • Unknown's avatar

Another vote for convenient access to the old editor and the old stats page to be returned.

Why can’t we just have an option for these things in the preference settings?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @nykeypad

It is quite possible that the Staff representative is right to say “It was removed as hardly anyone uses it anymore.”
I gather that the number of bloggers using WordPress.com is up in the hundreds of thousands, while the number of those voicing concern here is only in the dozens.
I cannot imagine why there are not at least tens of thousands in difficulty due to the limitations of the new editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

As much as I do not like the new editor, to be honest I haven’t found anything yet that the new editor wont let me do, as such.

The problem I have is that is unreliable when saving / publishing my work. I have lost work as a result, with the save/publish function ‘hanging’ causing me to F5 the page and lose my work. This is clearly, the worst possible problem!

I am unclear what it is, that people feel the editor does not allow one to do? In fact, the new editor allows me to do something I could only do in ‘All Posts’ before, which is change the author of a post.

As of this morning, I only seem to get presented with the new editor when I click Edit on a published post.

If I access my work via ‘All Posts’, or Edit a Page from the page itself, I am getting the old editor again. Has something changed since Friday?

    @hopnut
Does the new editor let you call up a previous post to use as a template?
Does it call up tags you have used before, so you can use the same tags consistently?
Does it show you the categories that you used on the last similar post, so you can simply let them stand?
In the last few days, I get the new editor without the option not only on “Edit” but also on “Posts/Add”.

  • Unknown's avatar

The new editor is absolute rubbish. Not only because it treats us like we’re 2 years old, but I can barely see it! It’s very hard on the eyes.

The ‘new’ stats page is disgusting as well. It’s all crunched up with the wrong information and made so tiny i can’t see it either.

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to add that I haven’t had wp all that long, just a few months, and as I only have 15,190 views now would be an ideal time to move my blog ANYWHERE that is much more suited to actually writing a blog without the nonsense, so if anyone knows of any other good blog sites please let me know.

  • Unknown's avatar

I too would REALLY like to have the old page back again.

Has anyone found where the shortlink function is on the new one – because I can’t find it anywhere?

Also, PLEASE PLEASE reinstate the old stats page where you can actually see the TOTAL number of all time views of a blog. Again, this isn’t there on the new page and surely I can’t be the only one that needs to be able to say ‘I have had xxxxx number of views since starting my blog’?

Why do things seem to be getting worse not better :-(

  • Unknown's avatar

To jazzylemon… Keep this link handy:

    YOURBLOGURL/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats

It takes you straight to the older stats page.
