Please restore Classic Editor as default for duplicated posts
-
I’m requesting that Classic Editor remain the default editor when duplicating posts, or at the very least that users be given a clear setting to control this behavior.
Right now, duplicating a post forces the Block Editor, even when Classic Editor is enabled and intentionally chosen as the primary workflow. This breaks established publishing processes and adds unnecessary friction.
I use Classic Editor because:
- My content is text-forward and formatting-precise
- I rely on long-standing workflows that do not translate cleanly into blocks
- Switching editors mid-process causes formatting issues, lost time, and repeated corrections
This isn’t about resisting change—it’s about respecting user choice. Classic Editor is still supported, still actively used, and still the best tool for many writers and publishers.
At minimum, duplicated posts should:
- Open in the same editor as the original post, or
- Respect the user’s default editor setting, or
- Offer a toggle when duplicating
Forcing the Block Editor removes agency and disrupts productivity for users who have deliberately opted out.
If other users are experiencing the same issue, please add your voice here. This change affects real workflows, not edge cases.
Thank you for listening.<gwmw style=”display:none;”></gwmw>

If formatting is that important, you better switch to the https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/verse-block/
There is no way round but the Classic Editor now the Classic Block – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/ – is fading out as most recent themes are no longer compatible with the Classic Editor.
So even though the Classic Editor is still available, it is not recommended – https://wordpress.com/support/editors/classic-editor-guide/
