Hi – I am starting a personal blog outlining my analysis and decision making criteria when investing in stock markets.

I would like to know if WordPress has following capabilities and how can I use them.

    1. I will cover 1 stock per post and update my analysis as new information comes out. I would like to show “Last updated at” on my post so readers know how fresh the content is.
    2. User should be notified via email when a post is updated. Is there a way for them to follow one or more posts?.
    3. Users should have a mechanism to know what was updated in a post since they last visited it when they receive the notification.

    Thank you for your help.

  • This sounds like an exciting project, and I’d be happy to help you understand how our platform can accommodate your requirements.

    1. I will cover 1 stock per post and update my analysis as new information comes out. I would like to show “Last updated at” on my post so readers know how fresh the content is.

To show a “Last updated at” timestamp on your posts, you can easily do this by using a Heading or Paragraph block when updating the post in the editor. You can manually update this block whenever you make changes to the post.

    2. User should be notified via email when a post is updated. Is there a way for them to follow one or more posts?.

For email notifications, you can use the built-in WordPress.com functionality that allows your readers to subscribe to your blog via email. Whenever you update a post, the subscribers will receive an email notification. You can learn more here: https://wordpress.com/support/subscriptions-and-newsletters/

    3. Users should have a mechanism to know what was updated in a post since they last visited it when they receive the notification.

As of now, we don’t have a built-in feature, and I’m not aware of a plugin that can automatically highlight the changes in a post and send that information in the notification email to your subscribers. I recommend adding a Paragraph block at the top of your post to summarize the changes you’ve made. This way, when your readers revisit the post, they can quickly see what has been updated. You can also consider using a different text color or bold formatting for this summary to make it stand out from the rest of the content.

As for a plan recommendation, I’d like to suggest our Personal plan. This plan offers a custom domain, essential features, and email support to get your blog up and running.

If you have any further questions or need assistance in choosing the right plan for your needs, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.
