Pls explain why blogs that link to mine are in comments
-
When I go to check comments for moderation I am finding records of who is linking to my site. I am not sure how I should handle this since it is not really a comment. Also I don’t understand why it shows up in comments. Is this a bug or a feature?
In the same vein, I also have found the same type of record indicating someone had linked to my blog in Askimet Spam. I moved it out of spam but now what do I do?
Yes I have checked the faq and I could not find these situations. Please give me the link if I missed it or a cliff notes version of things “Other than comments” that show up in comments and how I should handle.
Thanks in advance and Happy Holiday Season.

Those are called trackbacks. When the other person publishes a post with a link to a post in your blog, the other person’s blog sends out a notification to your blog that they have put a link to the post in your blog. That lets you know that someone has linked to one of your posts. If you do not want them in your comments, you can just delete them. I usually leave them.

Think of a traceback as a citation. If someone cites your article, then most blogging platforms automatically sends you a traceback to let you know about it.
But not all tracebacks are real. Sometimes sploggers just grab your article descriptions and link to you. So I recommend looking at the URL and see if you’d like to have it listed as someone that cited your article, etc. If not, then just delete it. Otherwise approve it.
One note, if you say something isn’t Spam in the Askimet, then it gets approved. So it will be listed under which ever article you posted as a comment after marking it as not spam.

Thank you both for the explanation. I had heard of the term “track-back” before, but did not know what it meant. Now I do. When I click the link in the message, I see that my article is referenced and there is a link to it on the other person’s web site – but in a recent case, even though it linked back to my site, it referenced someone else’s name as the author. Any idea why and how that happens? I would at least like to be credited for my work.
Thanks again for you help.
