Pls help!! – Do I need to verify domain upgrade-URL with Google Webmaster?
-
Hi, I’ve been scouring high and low on this forum but couldn’t find any answers. I bought my domain upgrade that maps from ruzhiwashere.wordpress.com to ruzhiwashere.com . Only my ‘old’ URL (.wordpress.com) has its ownership verified with Google Webmaster via a meta tag.
However, some issues caused me to verify the ‘new’ (domain upgraded) site (ruzhiwashere.com) as well. Mainly because
1) my latest posts and images aren’t being indexed by Google (not sure if this is related)
2) my submitted sitemap under my ‘old’ URL is forever ‘pending’, about one week now
3) I can’t get data on which sites link to my ‘new’ URL when I check Webmaster under the ‘old’ URL listing.Following this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-upgrade-vs-google?replies=11 , I tried what macmanx said about going to the ‘old’ URL and changing its address to the ‘new’ one, but this is restricted to root domains only.
Another opinion under that link is there’s no need to verify the domain upgraded-website as Google is able to redirect the ‘old’ URL to the ‘new’ one.
I’m very confused now. What do I do, leave both verified sites as they are? Would this cause Google to think they’re duplicate content? Do I go ahead and add a sitemap to the ‘new’ listing and make all adjustments as per the ‘old’ URL?
Or do I delete the ‘new’ URL and leave the old one as it is? If so, would this cause a problem in ownership verification of the ‘old’ URL, as the meta tag on WP’s dashboard has been replaced by the tag for the ‘new’ URL?
Please help!! much appreciated….

Just leave it. It’s fine. Google didn’t used to be sophisticated enough to figure it out but now it is.

Thanks so much raincoaster for the clarification. I’ll be leaving both listings as they are and will be using the same settings for both; I wouldn’t want to know what would happen if I used conflicting settings.
Just a question though..for submission of new sitemaps, do I need to submit to both listings as well? As mentioned the ‘old’ .wordpress.com’s sitemap is taking forever to process, it’s been a week and it’s still ‘pending’. I was just hoping that the ‘new’ listing will have it approved faster.
Apologies for sounding like a noob cos I am one :P

There really are no “new sitemaps” if the site is the same. A week is nothing, in Google time. They don’t list most new sites for the first month of their existence.
If you want to facilitate Google indexing your site promptly, the best thing you can do is make lots of original, text-heavy blog posts illustrated with relevant, properly keyworded images.

Hmm my site has been around for 6 months already, still it’s taking so long for a mere sitemap to get approved. Thanks again anyway for the info :)
