  Aloha kinlampco, While WordPress.com offers a lot of plugin functionality, you cannot add your own plugins or themes; this is only available on the self-hosted version of WordPress.org.

  You options will depend on what you are attempting to do with your membership site. You could set your site to private and then invite only those who were “members.”

  If you still need additional features, you may want to check out the WordPress.org self-hosted version of WordPress that allows you to select your own host as well as adding your own plugins and themes.
