I was wondering if it’s possible to install the buddypress plugin on the free version of word press or if the only way to install it is if I’m paying for the business version

As we Volunteers are in aware of exactly which plugins can be installed under the Business Plan I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up response. How do I get a
Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Also subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. It seems you’ve already answered your own question. There are still limits with what you can do with a free WordPress.com plan. It seems that in the future people upgrading to the Business plan will have much more flexibility, although all volunteers here are awaiting official announcements as to what limits to that flexibility there may or may not be.

@themagicrobot
There have been changes to the Business Plan that are to to be announced. -
-
@timethief. Yes I saw that earlier today which is why I said “all volunteers here are awaiting official announcements”. It will be difficult for volunteers if they have to become unpaid sales staff for WordPress.com. No longer can you give a definitive answer to anything regarding themes or plugins etc. It will be “no you can’t do that but yes you can if you pay £££s”.

Hi @dysansphere !
The only way to use plugins and custom themes on WordPress.com is with the Business Plan, and yes BuddyPress is available! If you don’t want to upgrade to the Business Plan then a self hosted WordPress site may be right for you.
You can find more info about the difference between the two here:
I hope this helps!

@timethief
Thanks for the response. Hopefully, some time in the very near future exactly which plugins are allowed under the Business plan will be clearly stated in all related support docs and on the pricing and plans pages. -
@camikaos
Oh no! I typed @timethief in error above. I am recovering from surgery and not on the ball yet. -
@timethief I hope you recover well! I think there will be more information in the weeks to come.
