Plug in calendar
-
I’d love to have a calendar for the blog – but can’t find one in the existing plug-ins on wordpress.com. As we can’t use external plug-ins, do you think it would be possible to use one from the wordpress.org downloads? The one I like is Ajax Event Calendar but to be fair any good functional calendar would do.

Have you tried Google’s calendar? There is a plug-in for it available here on WordPress.com. Very easy to embed and use, but it IS another outside source to maintain.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I’ve decided to use the Google calendar as it seems to work quite well. You say there is a plug-in on the wordpress.com site – where do I find it exactly?

Oh, sorry. Now that I’ve re-read this, I realize you won’t be able to use the plug-in I had in mind. It is not intended to be used in blogs on WordPress.com, only on self-hosted (wordpress.org) sites. For future reference, though, it’s called Google Calendar Events, and the author is Ross Hanney (and version is 0.7.2).
For WordPress.com sites, you have a choice between using the Upcoming Events widget (with a Google Calendar as the companion), or you can embed the Google Calendar directly into a page or sidebar. The former will get you a list of events from your calendar, while the latter will actually show the calendar itself (although Agenda format is available, I think).
