plug in for database entry (and pages)
-
Hi there,
I’m new to WordPress and just starting to build my first website!
One of the features key I’m planning to create for my site is going to be a database of people each with various information attached to them, each with their own individual page or ‘profile’.
I have collated all the information in the form of an excel spreadsheet over the last few months, but have been struggling to find a way to actually convert the information into WordPress.
I was hoping there’d be a plugin to convert each row of the excel spreadsheet into a unique page (for each person) that is searchable, and show each person in a series of columns where you can arrange to view them in certain order (.e.g by name, by age…), and also to be able to click on the name of each person to open up their page.
However I am yet to find anything like this after googling around for plug ins for an hour or so.
Does anyone have any experience with doing something like this for their own website or know a plugin that would help? I don’t really fancy manually entering in all the data lol, would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance!

There are no WordPress.COM upgrades that provide for bloggers to create username accounts and passwords for others – period. That can only be done on a wordpress.ORG software install on paid hosting.
You need to hire a web host and then set up your own wordpress.ORG software install to be able to hand out username registrations. Please see Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress https://move.wordpress.com
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Hi timethief,
Apologies for not being so clear.
I do indeed have the wordpress.org software installed and am creating the website offline.
Also when I referred to the database of people with profiles, I wasn’t referring to the individual accessing the site to have their own profile, I meant that the database OF people hosted on the site (separate to those viewing it) can view the profiles of people in the database. Hope that makes sense! :)

You are posting to the wrong support forum.

This is wordpress.COM support. We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.
(3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
