plug-in for displaying content in “volumes”

    I’m creating a custom theme for a friend’s website, and he’d like the home page to function similar to http://www.bookslut.com (Note: safe for work, despite the URL).

    Features I’d be looking for would be:
    – to associate content (that is *not* a blog entry) with a given volume
    – associate images with the content
    – to have the page automatically display or be easily configured to display the most recent volume
    – for the volume information to display the top of the content listing

    I know this could be accomplished in several ways – by usage of categories or tags and a few other tricks, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a plug-in (or any other effective way) of doing this that’s already been established.
