Plug in for mobile
-
Is it true I can’t get WPTouch plug in (or any plug in) as a wordpress.com customer?
So… how can I get my blog to look better on my phone, the font looks terrible.
Am I stuck with that?
thanks

You have a mobile theme built in and can choose that under Settings. As well, there are many responsive themes you can choose that adapt to whatever device the reader is using. If you want to change the font, you can either hand-code each post in HTML or you can purchase the Custom Design upgrade to use CSS to change the font. If you really hate the font and don’t want to spend any money, change themes.
-
Hi Raincoaster, thanks for that.
The mobile theme is checked it makes no difference at all in “protecting” the font from changing into something else (ugly and ordinary) on my phone.
I am using Ryu, I didn’t choose it, perhaps it was the default? I am totally new at this.
I don’t hate the font, I like it, it’s got nothing to do with changing it, I just want it to be stable across devices. Im tring at this stage to just keep this as simple as possible as I have no idea what I am doing. I got in a terrible frustrated mess with the colour pallettes – I couldn’t even find a way to save the colour I picked myself with the scale. Nothing I did was responsive so I gave up and as you can see just have white and my own picture.
So – When you say “responsive themes” do you mean they will keep the font look etc stable?
How do I know which themes are as you describe “responsive” …is it all of them?
I have the $30 upgrade at this stage. Which themes am I allowed to use? I would not mind buying one of the good ones if i thought it would save this problem.
I just know many people browse sites and blogs on their phones and mine looks crap so I want to know how to keep it the same.
I have seen people claim the WP Touch plug in sorted this out but I don’t think I can have that. You didn’t answer my question on that.
“Is it true I can’t get WPTouch plug in (or any plug in) as a wordpress.com customer?”
Thanks for any help.

Visual is a responsive layout theme. Responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading. Go to > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme
-
PS
Also before my dashboard down the side was wide and I could see thigns better, now I have this big white page taking up most of the screen which I hate.
http://goodworktherapies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
how do change it back
sorry for dumb question

Here’s an example of Visual with the mobile theme disabled as it ought to be on all responsive layout themes http://www.responsinator.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fvisualdemo.wordpress.com%2F
Here’s an example of another responsive layout theme ie. Expound in action: http://www.responsinator.com/?url=onecoolsitebloggingtips.com
-
thanks timethief but I really don’t care about any of that space for reading stuff.
I just want to preserve the font.
-
Did you actually look at the sites I posted the links to?
Here’s an example of Visual with the mobile theme disabled as it ought to be on all responsive layout themes http://www.responsinator.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fvisualdemo.wordpress.com%2F -
Yes I looked at them. They don’t tell me what I want to know.
I want to keep Ryu and have stable fonts. that is all…..
-
The answer is the fonts will be stable on any responsive layout theme that you have disabled the mobile theme on. How did Ryu crop up here? This site is not wearing it http://polyanthas.wordpress.com/ and you did not provide a link to many blog that was wearing it. Ryu is also a responsive layout theme http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/
-
Ryu cropped up because on my dashboard page is says
“WordPress.com running Ryu theme.”
I presumed therefore that is the theme I am using.
my first post above says
“The blog I need help with is goodworktherapies.wordpress.com” so that’s the one I’m talking about.
Am I running Ryu ? and are you saying all I have to do is uncheck everything in the Mobile section in Appearances to have stable fonts.
thanks for your help

and can you please tell me how to reset my dashboard so it is not 90% taken up with that big white page….it was not like that yesterday

I’m so sorry I had the wrong site. What a relief that you worked this through anyway. Here is how the blog wearing Ryu appears in several devices http://www.responsinator.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgoodworktherapies.wordpress.com%2F
Happy New Year! -
thanks, this stuff must drive you guys crazy with newbs…
I can’t use the colour palette either, I got in such a mess with it. All it did was keep putting horrible colour combinations on my blog and I didnt’ seem to have any control. I couldn’t get the colour I picked on the scale to save anywhere either
Will just keep plugging away at it.
What I wanted for my blog was a page with posts that showed just the first few lines with “more” option but could not find that (I did see the”summary” thing and checked it but that didn’t make any difference)
so now I have the one page with all the other pages linked as you can see.I don’t think that is ideal, but if I have all the posts there it just gets soooo long.
any hints or advice welcome
Happy new year …!!

Only eight free themes, including Superhero, Writr, Spun, Panel, Zoren, Fontfolio, Twenty Thirteen, and Typo, now offer free color palettes you can apply without purchasing a custom design upgrade.
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/12/04/awesome-theme-options/I have the $30 upgrade at this stage.
Then you will need to click this link and post a thread into the CSS Forum for help with CSS editing. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
-
yes I have to do the homework
“and can you please tell me how to reset my dashboard so it is not 90% taken up with that big white page….it was not like that yesterday “
any ideas on this?

I don’t know what you mean by that. Please work through this list and report back here in this thread.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/

What I mean is I have two blogs…on one the dashboard looks like this
http://goodworktherapies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
on the other it looks like this
http://polyanthas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
As you can see I hope, the goodworktherapies dashboard page is very difficult to use with the icons squashed and those two blank squares taking up room. It’s very irritating.
how can I reset this to be the same as http://polyanthas.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
It is not to do with servers.
It was fine on my server yesterday, and is the same story on all computers I have tried. It must be something simple?
