  I am trying to install plugins but cannot sort out how.

  It’s simple: you cannot install plugins on a WordPress.com site. They are only for WordPress.org sites. WP.com is a turnkey blogging solution for people who don’t want to tinker with codes and so on.

  If you have something specific you want the plugins to DO, like give you a contact form or SEO, post it and we can find you a workaround.
