Plug-in themes vs.domain themes – different/retired, etc.?
-
Hi,
So wish you all an amazing 2014. I’m new to WordPress so please pardon my ignorance, in case :).I have a domain and website. I integrated the WordPress plug-in available with my host service provider. I found amazing themes there such as Illumination, Customizr, etc.
I signed up for another blog yesterday and registered the domain name. So now it’s a dot com and not wordpress.com. I find the themes mentioned above unavailable. Any particular reason?
In fact on my domain blog dashboard even has an option to “Add theme” which is unavailable with this new one.
Would love to know what I’m missing. Thanks for any and every help. Appreciate it.
Regards

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are entirely separate systems. They are different versions of the software. On WP.com you cannot add external themes or plugins. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi raincoaster,
Thanks so much. That answer helped as I immediately checked out the version of the WordPress that my website hosting service provided and it turned out to be ….WP.org. And then of course on reading a little more I have understood the difference between .com and .org. Thanks… wow, so now I have both :)…thanks to serendipity I think. Appreciate your help. One last query – on themes. Many of the Themes have amazing photographs, but when you Preview it, the photographs aren’t available. I do know that for many of the themes, we are given the layout/wireframe of the site and have to populate it with our own pics. But some have a selection of pics. Why? Developer options?
Thanks and regards
