plug ins

    My friend has recently built a website through wordpress and has set it up through the free subscription. I have recently tried to do the same but he can download plug ins for free and on mine its telling me i have to pay for the business subscription in order to get plug ins. Why is this?

    It sounds like your friend set up a self-hosted installation of the WordPress.org software rather than creating a free site at WordPress.com. (See https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for more information about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.) There are only a limited selection of plugins available for most WordPress.com sites/plans — in order to have the ability to install other plugins here you need to have the paid business plan, which is why you keep getting prompted to subscribe to that plan.
