I can’t find the settings of the available add-ons along with the possibility to activate and deactivate them and configure them (free hosting version). Where can I find these settings. When I enter the Plugins setting, I can only search the directory of add-ons (available only for PRO or Business account).

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there! Just to check, was this in regards to your free site http://holistyka.wordpress.com/ ?

The reason that I ask is that free sites cannot use plugins; as you noted they are limited to the Business and Commerce plans (and for sites which have the legacy Pro plan too).

Would you like to share what sort of function(s) you were looking for with regards to plugins? We’re happy to see what alternatives we can suggest!

Otherwise if you’re planning to add more functions to your site such as (for example) booking services, it could be worth looking at purchasing a plan so that you can register a custom domain name, increase the storage on your site, and more:

But until now it was visible and certain plug-ins were available automatically in the free plan and from the plungin link in the admin panel you could manage them and deactivate and activate those available in the free plan and make settings for these add-ons

  • Hi there,

Free WordPress.com sites have never had the ability to install plugins. This feature was always available only for the Business and Commerce plans.

It’s possible that you may be referring to the free WordPress.org software instead. With WordPress installed on a hosting provider, users are able to use plugins. If you previously had a site that allowed you to install plugins, it’s likely that you were using a self-hosted WordPress.org site rather than a free WordPress.com site.

But some plugigin added provider to use in free account (At least in the past, some plunins were available for free)

Just to reiterate, adding plugins has only been possible on the Business and Commerce plan, and it has never been available on the free plan.

It’s essential to know that there are three different versions of WordPress:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software that powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org, which is the open-source project working on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com, which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software, and you’re currently contacting us.

If you had a website that used the free WordPress software on a different hosting provider, you could add as many plugins as you want. This may be what you’re remembering. However, there are many features built into WordPress.com that do not exist on the free WordPress software, and we do not refer to any of these features as “plugins.”

Could you tell us specifically what you want to enable or disable? With that information, we’ll be better equipped to provide you with the right advice.

I hope this clears things up!

I want to see the settings of the plugins that were automatically added in the free version (I’m not talking about installing them by me) – they used to be visible in wp-admin under plugins

  • Hi there,

The wp-admin plugins page is only visible if you have a site under our Business/eCommerce plans, and is not an option for our free sites.

While it is true that we add a lot of built-in functionality on all sites under our managed hosting (including free sites) but for those sites there is not a page you can visit to see your plugin settings. This is because we do not use “plugins” to add functionality, instead it is added centrally, for all sites on our network.

If I can ask, what were you looking for on that page? There is not a ‘wp-admin’ page for plugins on WordPress.com but perhaps if you can tell us more about what you are trying to set up, we can advise.

    Thanks for the additional info!
