Plugin and custom theme not available on Hostgater hosted site.
-
I know this question has been asked a lot many times and answered a lot many times, but I am still confused and do not have my answer yet.
All I want is plugin and custom theme availability. But no matter what I do, I cannot get it done. I also understand that there is a difference between .com and .org wordpress. Maybe this is where I am going wrong?
Here is what I did.
1- I registered and mapped a domain on wordpress.com for $17
2- Got one month hosting at Hostgator.
3- Changed my nameservers to
ns3469.hostgator.com
ns3470.hostgator.com
4- Tried both QuickInstall and Fantastico installation on both the main directory and a sub directory in different attempts. (did at least 4-5 attempts)
5- Logged into my control panel through my admin panel ==>> http://techsutradotorg.wordpress.com/wp-adminIn short, I have my own domain, (techsutra.org) and my own hosting. If I am not wrong, I am no longer hosting on wordpress.com, so what am I doing wrong?
Help would be greatly appreciated, I have been trying to solve this problem since a week without any success. I am on the verge of losing my mind.
Thank you.

You mapped the domain – not needed and not sure what it will do
However- you should be logging into your Hostgator site at:
http://techsutra.org/wp-login.php
You also need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG: the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

I don’t know what to write and how to write this! But http://techsutra.org/wp-login.php worked!
I swear I had used this link before but don’t know why i didn’t show my plugins. Maybe it was before I had changed the name servers. A lot of confusion and frustration on my part.
Man, this really has solved my problem. Thank you brother.

If you mapped your domain name to your WordPress.COM blog then logging in at the link I gave you would not have shown Plug-in’s as Plug-in’s are not allowed on WordPress.COM sites.
You be welcome & good luck

I had mapped first on wordpress while registering my domain. I then transferred it to hostgator. I think I did a stupid thing by mapping first on WordPress.com, I foolishly paid $5 more to host on wordpress when actually what i needed was my own hosting. Should have done more research on this subject.
Sigh, lesson learned the hard way. :(

If it has been less than 30 days, you can get a refund on the domain mapping. Contact staff if it has and request a refund, or check in the “store” page and there might be a link there to request the refund.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ search for anything, scroll down, click “No…” and the form will appear.
