Plugin Error “Update Failed -1”
-
I have multiple plugins way overdue for an update (WPForms, Site Kit and Starter Templates). They are on auto update, which isn’t working and any time I attempt to manually update them I just get the error message “update failed -1”. This is for https://nohassledogtraining.ca/
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
We can try updating the plugins for you and troubleshoot this further if we run into the same issues. Would you please enable the “WordPress.com log in” option on this page and reply with confirmation if you’re okay with us proceeding?
Thanks!

Amazing, thank you so much! Just completed that step and you should be good to proceed with your testing.

Hey there,
Good news! We’ve fixed the issue.
It looks like the plugin: Starter Templates which is supplied from theme developers, was blocking the updates of plugins, including it’s own, creating an un-updatable loop.
It doesn’t look to be WordPress.com specific but will also affect other WordPress sites, that are with other providers.
Thankfully, we have an internal fix which I’ve just deployed onto: https://nohassledogtraining.ca/ and so you should be able to update all plugins via Plugins > click Update on a plugin.
Are you able to confirm you were able to do this?

It worked and everything is updated! Thank you very much for the speedy help with this…I would have spent hours trying to figure that out.

Hi @infjmalepsychology, I checked your site infjmalepsychology.com and it looks like you have the same plugin that’s causing the issue.
That plugin is made by Astra, so I recommend contacting them and asking them for help on how to fix this.
You can also get in touch with your hosting provider, as they can help you access the hosting environment your site lives in and manually update or remove that plugin.
Please note that we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

I’m also having the same issue and have several plugins that need to be updated.

Hi @leaguecitytx
I deactivated the Starter Templates plugin and could update your other plugins without issue. That plugin is definitely the culprit. So, in the future, if you run into this issue again, deactivate the Starter Templates plugin, update all the other plugins (including Starter Templates), and then reactivate Starter Templates. Hope this helps! -
