plugin for coming soon and maintenance page

I think there should be an optional plugin available for a “coming soon” page. This would be ideal if you want to get your site out there, let people know you are building it, but it is not quite ready to show the world yet.

Unfortunately WordPress.com doesn’t support ‘uploading custom plugins‘ but you can always recommend your plugin of choice to the Ideas Forum
