Plugin hosting

    Hi folks,

I’ve been trawling though the FAQ section and related posts and I think that I have a good, but not total, understanding of my issue: How to upload plugins?

Initially, I thought that wordpress would host these if I bought the 5GB upgrade. Apparently this is not the case :( And I believe I am correct in thinking that I now have to set-up external file hosting.

    So, my questions are these:

    1) Do I have to purchase hosting with a separate hosting company to install plugins that will allow audio streaming etc? I am assuming that the 5GB upgrade is not for plugin upgrades.

    2) If my assumptions are correct up to now, and I do need to get an external host, was it then a waste of money purchasing the 5GB upgrade? It not a big deal, but I’m confused as to why anyone would need to purchase hosting with wordpress and also and external host.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

If you want plugins (other than the widgets available under the Design page on your dashboard) then you need to not be here at wordpress.com. Most of the plugins you’ll find available are only suitable for wordpress.org self-hosted blogs. Look at the sticky thread at the top of the page for an explanation of the difference.

I’m not sure why anyone would really want the 5GB upgrade unless they regularly upload videos to their WP.com blog.

The reason I bought the 5GB upgrade was because I wanted to avoid going through external hosts (no experience in this). I assumed – incorrectly it seams – that getting the 5GB upgrade would allow me to do this.

So, given that I’ve bought the 5GB upgrade and also registered the domain with wordpress, what are my options? Audio streaming (maybe a little video) is pretty much key to my blog. Added to this, some of the other plugins look rather useful.
