Plugin Import from Splinder
-
I add my request to other seen in this forum.
I think you could have a lot of new users if you install this simple plug-in.
In fact, as you know Splinder (a blog community) is going to close within end of January and there are a lot of users that are looking for an alternative.
Till now splinder doesn’t give us the opportunity to export the blog. But there is this simple plug-in for wordpress that let you import from splinder.
If you will add it, I will transfer my blog here with pleasure (as I already have one in wp. “fibrotica” and I’m very satisfied of the service).
Thank You and sorry for remarking of a known problem.

I’ve tagged this thread for staff attention and hopefully they will respond shortly and perhaps get this going for you and the others at Splinder.
-
Thank You !
I think that could be interesting also for the staff… because a lot of “Lost in Splinder users” could find a new home :) !!!! -

[UPDATING]
In these days all Splinder’s users received an email advising that it’s possible to export our blog in a .xml file.
How it’s possibile to import it in wp ?
I tried using wp import plugin but gave me and error.

I tried using wp import plugin but gave me and error.
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload plugins into them.

I need this too! I contacted support asking the same thing! I know lots of people from splinder that want to trasfer to wordpress, but there is no simple solution as for now! Thank you! Waiting hopefully for a solution!!

You should definitely be able to import from XML. These are instructions from 2006 for this:

Thank you raincoaster, but our problem is we don’t know how to download our blog to xml format.. If I find out how to do so, maybe I can then upload it to wordpress, is that what you mean? thks
-
Yes, if you can get it as XML you can use that; it’s just a feed, can you not “subscribe to your feed” and get it that way? When all else fails, contacting support is the way to go. They have import magicians.

Hi all, I have the same “splinder” problem.
Splinder is now giving its users a tool to export the entire blog in XML format (under Blog -> Settings -> Export blog and activate redirect); I’ve read the article mentioned above but I can’t see any useful wordpress tool to import the XML format Splinder generates. The only one that seems close to a “pure XML” import is the “import from wordpress” tool … but it gives an error:
“This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”
Let me add that the format in which Splinder exports is:
<feed xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom”>
Any idea? Thank you all!

Thanks for all suggestions! I am contacting support! As for esumal, I wanted to say that after I got the XML file, i found a link where they can convert my XML to WXR wordpress valid file here http://blogger2wordpress.appspot.com/ but..it gives me error. I will try to ask the wordpress magicians now :)

One possibility I tried is:
– standard export from Splinder
– convert to RSS
– install locally Instant WordPress
– import as RSS
– export as standard WordPress
– import to online WordPress blogDownside: I lost all comments.
-
-
Then the problem is linking the comments to the posts. I don’t know if the comment feed will have comment ID or not, and not sure, if it does, that the posts brought in by RSS have the necessary “stuff” in the database. The comments might end up being orphaned.
I’ve got the same issue with a Drupal to Joomla conversion I’m doing. No one makes an importer/converter because Drupal is like a tar pit.
-
It is. there’s not much Drupal can’t go, once you get through the UI, but it’s like uplifting the club of Hercules to brain a gnat.
-
hello! I solved the problem by sending my XML file I had from splinder xml download, to the support support@wordpress.com
And they were so kind to convert and add to my new wordpress blog. Everything, comments included! Really grateful for all the help from support!! Thanks a lot!! It would be cool to find out how they did it! :)
