Hi there,
It’s not possible to install plugins on sites hosted here at WordPress.com.
Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted sites that use software from WordPress.org.
If you need support for a self-hosted site, please try posting your question in the WordPress.org support forums.
To learn more about the differences between the two different versions of WordPress (.com vs .org), please see this guide.
Good luck :)

Thank you for the resonse @garysixtyeight
I actually do have a self hosted site on my laptop. The instructions for installing the plugin were to upload the zip file.
However, when i do so, I receive the aforementioned error message.
Do you have any idea how to remedy this issue?
Thanks
