Plugin Recommendation – Fullscreen background image

  I have a plugin to recommend to be included on WordPress.com –

  Any of the full-screen background things, e.g.

  http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/full-screen-background-css-jquery/

  or

  http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-full-screen-background-image/

  What’s the point of having a non-tiled background image (a landscape photo, for example) if it’s not going to appear properly in the user’s browser?

  The background image you are using now seems to be too small. We do not stretch the background image because it will loose its quality.

  Please note that you can control the appearance of your blog with a Custom Design upgrade, if you’re experienced with CSS.

  Hi Kardotim, thanks a lot for the quick response.

  My background image perhaps appears too small on your computer, but it appears fine on mine. That’s what I’m saying – it depends on the reader’s screen resolution, window size, and page magnification settings.

  There is no way to work around that by changing the image size – except by making it really big and just accepting that most people won’t see the whole image – which isn’t exactly a solution.

  I see that other people have found themself in the same situation – and have created plug-ins to fix the issue. There are at least two of these available. That’s why when I read that WP wants suggestions for plugins to be included on WP.com, I thought to recommend this – it seems relatively simple addition to greatly improve site appearances.

  I agree its not nice to have overstretched images, but with the relatively low level of variation that would solve the issue I can’t see that overstretching is going to be a problem. I’m not asking to be allowed to upload a tiny background and stretch it to a sensible size (although I think that should be up to the blogger to decide). I’m only suggesting that when you upload a sensibly-sized background, that it should be able to accommodate the normal variations in readers’ display settings.

  Thank you for the suggestion. I can’t promise that we’ll use it, but we may use it as a base for a future feature.
