Plugin Suggestion – Information Directory

I hope someone here can help me. I am after a plugin that will make a simple site. Basically, I just want to have categories and “tip resources” in each category. Let’s use for example “<Example Job> Tips”. Okay, so this will be tips for people who work at that job. Each tip will be between maybe 1-3 sentences. Like I said, I want to have categories for them and a very good search that can also search the tip contents and not just the title of them. What do you think would be best? Maybe it’s actually a template/theme I need instead of a plugin? Whatever it may be, I am happy to hear the suggestions. Hopefully something that is easy to put together because this is just a personal project to help some people I work with. Thanks!

  • Hey there –

You’ll be able to do this with a free site on WordPress.com from our basic editor – no plugins needed to build a site menu like what has been described. Our personal plan would give you some additional storage space, and a custom domain to help with SEO and brand awareness.

Here’s some tips to help you get started.

So I just create categories and then make those short tips as posts? Is there any theme/template that would look best for that which may come to mind? I only ask because I did not know quite what to type in to search for this type of information resource site. Thanks again in advance.

    Hi there!

So I just create categories and then make those short tips as posts?

Yes, exactly. You can even create separate pages and insert the Blog Posts block, which can be configured to display posts from specific categories only. Please check out the article below to find out more about using the Block Posts block:

Is there any theme/template that would look best for that which may come to mind?

You can actually choose any of the recent themes from our theme gallery. The themes listed near the top are built to work with the block editor/site editor, so you can change their layout manually as well. It may be useful to check out the basics of using the Site Editor:

With the Site Editor, you can design everything on your site — from the header right down to the footer — using blocks. Before the Site Editor, many fundamental elements of your site’s design (like the header, sidebars, page content, and more) were all determined by your theme. With the Site Editor, you can access a whole new level of control over your site’s appearance! When to Use the Si
