  Is there a way to install plug ins without upgrading? I am in a college student and participating in a class where i need to verify the ownership of my blog site and i cant do it without it asking me to upgrade. Any way i can add one without upgrading to a plan where i have to pay?

  For sites hosted on WordPress.com, there is no way to add plugins without upgrading to a Business plan or eCommerce plan.

  As an alternative, you might research free WordPress hosting options for the open source version of WordPress available at WordPress.org. Likewise, you could ask for recommendations in the WordPress.org support forums.
