  I cannot find the theme ‘astra’. Is this because I need to sign to a domain to attain this? Also I do not want to commit to a long term domain deal while I am building the site. Can I look at a short term rate and then upgrade and still get a discounted rate if I sign for a set period?

  You would need a paid Business or eCommerce account to use a third-party theme, like Astra: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/

  However, we do have hundreds of themes available, no paid plan required: https://wordpress.com/themes

  As for purchasing a plan, you’re welcome to start at the monthly rate and upgrade to the annual rate at any time.
