    Hi all, all the videos/blogs/posts I read about people making websites on WordPress say everything is free and all you need to pay for is the hosting site. I am confused or has this changed? Everytime I want to edit or add plug ins or anything custom, it asks me to pay $40 a month. Any help on how I can create a basic blog for cheaper?

    Most of the videos, blogs, posts, and other blablabla are about the open source wordpress.org. But then you have to buy a domain and hosting yourself. Also you must install wordpress.org yourself and take care of security, upgrades, updates, … yourself

    Over here on the wordpress.com platform you must upgrade to the Creator Plan to be able to use third party plugins and themes.
