Plugins
-
Are we able to add plugins to our blogs if we are hosted with WordPress itself? In this case, is my website http://www.garygomes.wordpress.com allowed to use plugins?
If so, how can I achieve this?
-
Thanks for that judyb12. I forgot to check the FAQ before I posted the topic.
Much appreciated.
Another question though, whereabouts is the feedback link? I cannot see it or I am blind…
-
It’s blue and labeled “Support”. It’s located on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page. :)
-
I don’t have a link there. I remember see it at one time but it isn’t there any more for whatever reason… To my knowledge, it is meant to show up right under the text “Howdy, Gary. [Sign Out, My Profile]”, however it isn’t there.
Do I have a bug or something? I have tried logging out and in again but still no luck.
-
It’s not there anymore on my admin pages either. Go to the bottom of a forum page and click on “support.”
[edit: They won’t be open till 9am PDT – about 20 minutes.]

/nod to the sacredpath
@garygomes
WOAH! The support button on our dashboards disappeared overnight!
I’m sorry i mis-directed you. If you wait for 20 minutes you can use either one of the links located at the top of this forum page and at the bottom of it http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ -
Thanks for that thesacredpath.
No problem at all timethief, you still helped out. Is it down because they are closed, or is it down due to some sort of error throughout WordPress?
If I use that link, it would be the same as using the one that is meant to be in the upper right hand corner of the admin pages, correct?
-
It’s down because it’s 5 minutes prior to working hours. :)
All support links lead to the same place -> to Mark our Support Maven. -
Ah ok, no problem at all. 3 minutes on my clock. I’ll be waiting. All I have to do is send in feedback regarding why I should get a particular plugin and stuff so yeah. Thanks very much for all of your help and thanks again timethief.
Edit: And it’s back. Thanks again all!

We cannot upload and use individual plugins for our wordpress.com individual blogs. The only plugins we have at wordpress.com are universally applied to all blogs ie. Akismet. This is because we are all working on a multiuser blogging platform here. If you hire a web host and have him download wordpress.org software (different from ours) then you can have individual plugins.
Otherwise you can make a request as the frequently asked questions states.
If there is a plugin that you feel is a must-have and would benefit users on the site then fill in the Feedback form on your blog! Tell us what plugin you want, where it can be downloaded and most importantly, why you think it should be included in the site.
All the feedback is read, and we’re collecting the most numerous requests for implementation.
You cannot upload your own plugins for security reasons. -
That’s not what judyb12 wrote…
The plugin I want would be essential for A LOT of people… I want the contact form.

@devblog
Good grief! I had no idea that was the contact form what garygomes meant. Of course we already have contact forms for our blogs here – no individual plugins required. Thank goodness you posted. :)@garygomes
I’m so sorry you got the run around on this. Obviously understanding what you meant and answering you appropriately went of the rails at the very beginning. Please accept my apology. :(@ellaella
Thanks for sharing the new location of the support button.P.S. I added a “contact form” tag to this thread.
-
Thanks very much devblog. If I have that contact form on it’s own on a page, will it be sent to the e-mail I specified when I first registered the blog?
@ellaella: The support button is still to my left…
@timethief: That is no problem at all. I must have confused the hell out of you as well. I will try and be much clearer in future posts. Thanks for your help!
Edit: P.S: The [contact-form] one is ugly. It gives a large field for a message and a simple Submit button, nothing else. I dislike it very much and I am sure those who don’t pay for the CSS upgrade dislike it. I still think that there should be a plugin to take it over…
-
no problem, TT.
garygomes,
I haven’t used one but I guess it will. Test it and see what happens.
-
UPDATE: Acckkk! The blue “Support” button that disappeared from the top right hand corner of our admin side blog pages overnight is now back.
@garygomes
If you change to the MistyLook theme you will find a Page Template for a Contact box that I quite like. Perhaps it will suit your needs. -
@timethief – I had no idea that Contact Page Template was there. Thank you. I’ve adopted it and scuttled the other.
