Plugins and self-hosting

It starts with me wanting to change the font on contact form (blue on blue background) and override font fromm theme… I discover I can’t the way things are set up, I need a plugin, then I find out I can’t download plugin unless I’m self hosted….. sigh
Question1: Can I get real control over the font of my page, it’s a very basic need, I think it should be made way simpler, why is it so complicated (the customize section is limiting and there are no stomize option offered in the contact form edit window)
Question 2: If I need to go self-hosted for that, which is ridiculous, what does it imply for me , what will I have to do and where are the dangers?

You are correct, because we host your site here at WordPress.com, we cannot allow our enormous community of users to add third-party plugins because it would put your security at risk. If plugins are important, you can move on over to a self-hosted site. Here’s the difference between hosting at WordPress.com and self-hosting via WordPress.org:

Question 3: How can I change the font on a contact form
As you well know, you current have a lot of blue/white text on top of a blue/white background. Adjusting those hues will help with readability. The Custom Design upgrade gives you the ability to make adjustments will CSS code. If you’re not familiar with CSS, this is a good place to start:
