Plugins not loading, says Jetpack is old
-
Every time I try to look at any Configure settings such as plugins I get an error to say that my settings can’t be retrieved and to check that Jetpack is up to date.
I also, sometimes, get a page to say Jetpack needs updating with a button to do so. Only problem is if I click on it it hangs and I have to close out.
Given that this is on wordpress.com I am surprised.
How can I get this fixed so I can manage my site properly? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey Jeff,
Bummed to hear you’re having trouble! I checked your information in our system and found it appears you used to have a WordPress.org site using http://rocketroseart.com/. However, it appears that since then you have moved back to WordPress.com with that same domain name. Just in case, here’s a refresher on the two:
To help simplify things, I’ve disconnected the previous Jetpack connected site we had left in our system. Basically, this was like a phantom site leftover from when you had a WordPress.org installation using Jetpack. This stayed in your WordPress.com interface unnecessarily but has since been disconnected.
Moving forward, you should be able to manage your https://rocketroseart.com/ site using WordPress.com. Can you confirm this cleared things up for you?
Best,
Anne

Hi Anne
To my memory I have never hosted RocketRoseArt myself. I am 65 so maybe my memory is slipping but I really don’t ever remember doing that:)
Anyway, the problem still exists.
Just tried to access plugins and received the same message ‘Error fetching plugins on rocketroseart.com.’ and the page has hung. Can’t click on anything so have to close page and start again.
Was going to include a screenshot but can’t see how.
Regards

Update on this. I have found it works in Chrome but not Mozilla. I have checked everything I can think of in Mozilla but the problem persists. Any help on what in Mozilla may be the problem?

Hi @greyrocket , are you still having trouble? It looks like @annezazu was able to disconnect your Jetpack since you are no longer self-hosted.
You shouldn’t be getting plugin errors at all. If you are, can you copy the link to the page where you’re seeing them, and paste it here? We’ll take a look.

It seems I am not believed. Telling me it only happens with self hosted sites is suggesting something not nice. Why would you do that? Do you really think I don’t know I am hosted on wordpress.com? This is very disappointing. If you are on staff you can see I have been with wordpress.com and paying my fees for years.
I just went to my site and clicked on Plugins. The page came up with the error ‘Site is undefined’ in a red bar top right. The page hung. I restarted the browser and clicked again and then I got the message ‘Error fetching plugins on rockerroseart.com’ in a red bar. The page didn’t hang. I have screenshots. Both times the url is ‘https://wordpress.com/plugins/rocketroseart.com’. Then I tried again and it worked, surprisingly. It is obviously intermittent.
Now I don’t know why Chrome works but FireFox is doing this, as I said in my update to this post. It used to work fine but recently it hasn’t. But it has happened regardless of you saying it only happens on self-hosted sites and those message I mentioned have all appeared at different times.
It would be nice to be taken seriously and not given messages that are not helpful in any way.

Sorry, not trying to be insulting. You asked why she thought you must be self hosted, and I was explaining why: this error message describes an issue with a self-hosted site.
We have tried logging into your account and have not seen this error.
Could you maybe get a full screenshot of where you are seeing this (here’s how; you can upload it to a new post; then delete the post without publishing), or tell me where you are clicking?
Also, are you logged into the same account on Firefox as you are with Chrome? If you’re using a different account in Firefox we could check on that.

I don’t think this is a problem with wordpress.com. That is what I first thought but an update I made to this post identified it was as problem with FireFox. It is something in FireFox that I can’t resolve. But worse, now it is working. It was the same user, same website. Given that it’s working now I have to accept something in FireFox changed. Maybe an update. I had previously deleted content, reinstalled and checked everything I could in FireFox and nothing changed. Then suddenly it works. No idea now!

I’m glad it’s working for you. If you see this error again, get a screenshot and we’ll go from there. Cheers!
