Plugins Only with Business Plans

I have two WordPress sites. On the first one (straightenmycrown.com), I can add plugins for free. On the second one (brownmustardseed.wordpress.com), it is requiring me to pay for a business plan in order to add plugins. Why? Am I missing something?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

straightenmycrown.com uses the self-hosted version of WordPress instead of WordPress.com, so your hosting provider lets you use plugins. Note the difference here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

brownmustardseed.wordpress.com is not using the self-hosted version of WordPress though, it is using WordPress.com. Sadly, on WordPress.com, only sites with the Business Plan can upload custom plugins. However, all sites do get access to some plugins automatically.

There are also some incompatible plugins to be aware of which cannot be used on WordPress.com entirely. Those are listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incompatible-plugins/

If you state what you’re trying to do though, there may be some alternatives, so feel free to ask.

Let us know if you have any further questions. :)
