plugins question
-
I currently have a registered and mapped .com address for my domain Branscombephotographic
I work as a freelance photographer, so would like to be able to use the different plugins to better my website with galleries and such.
Now either i’m being a bit thick, or I’ve just been making this whole process really difficult for myself.
I’m also aware that there is built-in plugin functionality with registered .com sites which is why there isn’t the button, so before I get my head bitten off about another question to do with plugins, I promise I do know a bit!
Please if anyone can help me with this issue I would like more concise guidance. I also want to know what to do, as i’ve already paid for hosting registration for my domain whether I have to do it twice or not.
Many thanks,
BP

Hi,
You can add a gallery to your site by following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/Or you can use portfolios:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/The only available plugins are listed in the following link and they are already pre-installed. For security reasons, you can’t install other plugins.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/Hope that helps!

Hi,
That’s all really good actually thanks, is it particularly easy to Get the other plugins for my site? whether that means transferring my site to .org or not?
Thanks

Domain mapping does not mean that you are hosting your site yourself. You are still hosted here, for free, but your site has a pseudonym (an alias).
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgradingThis means that you cannot use plugins on WordPress.com.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/You might take a look at wigets and shortcodes available here to see if any of them satisfy your needs:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/If that is not useful for your purposes, then you’ll need to look into paying someone to host your site, and using WordPress.ORG software to make it function:

All your upgrades are available here:
https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades/For your domain, if you go to Store > My Domains in your Dashboard, you will see your domains and if they need to be renewed or not.

Yes, I forgot about the specific shortcode useful for photographers, artists, and students:

@1tess
Hi, Tess! That portfolio shortcode link is good. I’m a photographer so I might actually use that someday. Learning something new everyday!@richardheneal
If you stay at WordPress.com, you can only use the plugins listed here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/If you move to a self-hosted WordPress (.org) site, it’s fairly easy to add plugins. There would be a Plugin menu in your Dashboard where you can install all the plugins you want.
The harder part would be moving from .com to .org: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org -
And moving from .com to .org is not really difficult!
The hard part happens when something goes wacko on your self-hosted site and you are the one who must fix it. Be sure to invest in (paid) back-up options…
