Plugins that prevent me from editing of desktop version
-
Hi,
Whenever I want to writing something on desktop version, it always says that “You have one or more plugins that prevent editing content within WordPress desktop version,” and ask me to proceed in external browser. I don’t want that. I’ve tried to reinstall, but it didn’t work.

Hi @nick900209,
Have you tried to deactivate plugins to see which one is causing the error?
If you are able to use plugins, then with your plan you can use Live Chat to get direct support faster.
You can access live chat by logging in to your WordPress.com account and going to this link: https://wordpress.com/help/contact -
Hi there, this is a known issue when using the Desktop app and have your Account Settings>Interface Settings>Dashboard Appearance>
Show wp-admin pages if availableset as your default.See this earlier forum thread: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/desktop-wordpress-com-app-problems/
Note that you can also change that Dashboard Appearance setting from within the desktop app directly. That will also change it onsite.
If you are still having issues with this, please post back here and let us know the version of the desktop app you’re using and your OS and version.

Hi,
I’ve tried to close that settings (which I assume that it’s now called “Show advanced dashboard pages.”), however that doesn’t work. Both leads to the same problem.
I’ve never used any plugins on my site.
I’m using the latest version of wordpress.com (6.14.0) on windows 10, 64-byte.

Yes, the app hasn’t updated yet to the latest wording that appears in the Account Settings onsite. On the WordPress.com website, that setting reads, “Show wp-admin pages if available” while in the Windows app it still reads, “Show advanced dashboard pages.”
Regardless, what you’re saying is that if you change that setting so that the default WordPress.com (Calypso) dashboard appears rather than wp-admin, you are still getting that error message?
Have you tried changing the setting in the app or on the website and then logging out? I found that if I wait a few minutes and then log back in, things have caught up to that setting, so there may be a caching issue somewhere.
I’ve also flagged your thread for Staff attention.

Hi,
I’ve tried the way you suggested, and that seemed not to work as well. I first disabled the settings, then logged out, and waited about 10 minutes. After that I logged in again. The problem still exists.
There’s another problem that I’ve found. I’ve also tried to close the tab of the desktop version app, however when I tried to reopen, it didn’t respond. I then later uninstall and reinstall, it opened. It seems that I can only open it only one time. If I close it, I may need to reinstall or restart my PC.

Hi there,
Please flush your computer’s DNS cache. You can find a tutorial for doing this in Windows 10 here:
https://www.technipages.com/flush-and-reset-the-dns-resolver-cache-using-ipconfig
After doing that, completely restart the computer.
It’s possible nothing is changing in the app even after you made changes because the app is loading data from the local cache, instead of fetching new data from our servers. In that case re-installing the app won’t make any difference, because the cache is managed by Windows itself.
Let us know if that also doesn’t help.

I’ve just found some more information about this.
Our developers are working on a fix for this issue that will be in a future update of the app, but I’m afraid I’m not able to tell you when.
In the meantime, if none of the measures we suggested above work, you’ll have to use a browser for now.
Sorry for the trouble.

Hi,
I see. The way you suggested didn’t seem to work as well. I’ll use the browser.
Hope to see the update coming. Thanks!

Yes, this issue is still being worked on, and there might be a few more updates to the app before this specific issue will be fixed.
