WordPress.com is a hosted blog service. You do not have to download software, pay for hosting or manage a web server. WordPress.com does not permit FTP access, uploading themes or plugins. WordPress.org is free software. You can install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ If these realities are deal breakers for you then your can hire a web host and set up your own self hosted WordPress.org install from http://wordpress.org/

Should read

First. Thank you! First time posting in a forum ever, and I didn’t expect any answers at all. So thank you! So I’m going to assume that the plug ins that are available for word press sites, are only available if you have a website, not a blog. Is that correct? And is there a way I can either pay and enable plugins somehow, or I’d need to buy a actual site for that.

Hello again,
Plugins are only available to those who hire web hosts and install free WordPress.org software on their own self hosted sites. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com to gain that access and install plugins. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ -
Why don’t you tell us what you actually want to get accomplished, and we can tell you how to do it in your existing blog? And please don’t say “install plugins.” Plugins do things. What things do you want to do? Most of them are possible at Wp.com if you know how.

So I’m trying to make mine into a torrent site with that plugin to share old Jewish music with friends, that ISN’T copywrite and I guess you can’t install that plug in on the free WordPress blog.

You can upload your audio files to one of the file sharing sites and then use the audio player here so that people can listen to them, and also include a download link to where you have the files uploaded. You can do this at places like fileden.com and a number of others.

You can also get the space upgrade and upload the mp3’s here and both post the download link and post it in the audio player. Torrents, however, can’t be hosted here even with upgrades as far as I know.
