Plugins/Themes should show last updated date column to reduce # of abandoned/vul

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey WP Community,

I think the current Plugin and Theme pages should have a column that directly lists the last date a plugin or theme was updated and some measure of its status (maintained or not). This would help users see directly in this WordPress dash that a plugin or theme may be un-maintained/abandoned and riddled with vulnerabilities, 0-days and other crud we as a community do not want.

This would really help users know that they are potentially running vulnerable code and improve the security stance of WordPress. As of now, users have to click and go to the WordPress site to get this info and most often the NEVER do.

    Thanks,
    J

What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you refer to please?
And, exactly which username account registered that site?

I’m asking because we cannot accurately answer questions posted here until we have confirmed the URL referred to and verified the hosting. And, that is why we are all prompted to provide the relevant URL when we create a new thread.

We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.

Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin.

You could be posting to the wrong support forum.

    re: plugins
You could be confusing wordpress.COM hosted blogs and wordpress.ORG installs on paid hosting. There is no FTP access https://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/ and no blogger installed plugin capability. There never has been as blogger installed plugin capability here as they are not permitted here at WordPress.com for various security reasons. There is no ability to upload third party themes. The only themes we can use are here https://wordpress.com/themes/. No upgrade changes those realities. Please read https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, and if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
