Plugins/Updates/Backups

Hello. I am attempting to add a printable recipe card to my blog posts. I am not very tech savvy and finding it to be an exhausting process. I downloaded WordPress’ ‘Recipe Card’ plugin but when I go to my dashboard, there is not an option for plugins. I don’t know if I need to download a newer version of WordPress? I can’t figure out what version I have. I also read that I need to backup my blog before updating it. I don’t know how to do that either. Feeling very frustrated at my lack of knowledge. Thanks for your help.

Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG software install running on a paid web hosting service.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins (passwords), features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

All wordpress.COM hosted blogs are running on the latest version. All upgrades are done by Staff. We bloggers do nothing at all. In fact this the BETA test platform for all new wordpress versions and they are up and running here at wordpress.COM about a month before they become available to wordpress.ORG users.

Oh my goodness! That was so helpful. I am going to try this now . Thank you so so so much!!! I have been trying to figure out this recipe card thing for over a year now and it has frustrated me to the point of just about giving up on the blog because I know I can’t be a successful food blog without being able to print a recipe. I have so much to learn. Thanks again!

Ok despite your wonderful advice, I could not get the shortcode to work. I don’t know if you might have time to take a peek at what I may have gotten wrong https://somethingsweetsomethingsalty.wordpress.com/2015/12/28/baklava/
I attempted to put a printable “recipe card” at the bottom of the post but it just shows up exactly as I typed it.

The shortcode works very well, provided one does not in any way, shape or form change the shortcode.
Here is an example of the correct shortcode usage

I almost forgot to check back and tell you thank you again for your help. I think I have the whole process down now and it works! Yay! Thanks so much!
