Plural tags truncated

There seems to be a problem with tags ending with s. In some cases it’s not too bad (“Catholics” becomes “Catholic”), but in other cases it is (“stained glass” becomes “stained gla”).

Apologies if this issue has already been raised.

    Strangely, “Christmas” is unaffected.

    What gives?

I’ve never seen or heard of than before. Have you tried going back to the oldest post you have used the, say “stained glass” tag, editing the post and correcting it in the tags field?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, and it truncates it again. If I press “Save and Continue Editing” the “stained glass” is truncated to “stained gla” and that’s how it shows up in the preview as well.

Very strange. I’ve only noticed this in the last day. I know I’ve used plenty of plural tags, and I tag all my posts, so this is definitely new behavior.

Staff is monitoring the forums so perhaps one of them will pop in with an answer and if not perhaps another volunteer will drop by with an idea of what is going on.

LOL! I tried the example tag names given above the Tags textbox in the editor, here’s the result:

    Before:

Christmas, Jesus Christ, nativity, stained glass, cats, pet food, dogs

    After:

cats, Christmas, dog, Jesus Christ, nativity, pet food, stained glass

It mangled dogs but not cats and stained glass.

    Before:

Christmas, Jesus Christ, nativity, stained glass

    After:

Christmas, Jesus Christ, nativity, stained gla

I’ve got it now: it only mangles the last tag if it ends in “s.” At least that seems to be the pattern.

If “stained glass” isn’t the last tag in the list, it works fine. So at least there’s a workaround.

OK, I think this is a more accurate description of the problem:

“s” character(s) truncated from end of last tag

    Thanks for replying, thesacredpath.

You’re welcome and thanks for posting what you found out since it may very well give staff a clue to what is going on. It certainly shouldn’t truncate that last s’ on the list of tags you enter.

I have the same problem with tags (“s” character(s) truncated from end of last tag), but it doesn’t happen always. The same tag, in last position, sometimes is truncated, sometimes is not.

I have the same problem… although it isn’t necessarily the last tag in the list for me – I’ve just tried a few different tags with ‘s’ at the end of them, and it seems to happen at random. It’s been annoying the hell out of me so my lists of tags are getting just slightly ridiculous as I’ve got increasingly frustrated trying to get the tag I originally wanted to appear properly.

Lately I’ve ended up with tags such as ‘new’ (instead of ‘news’), ‘cat’, ‘homesickne’, ‘lazine’, and even…. ‘wordpre’.

If anyone knows how to fix it, I’d be delighted to hear how!

My suggestion at the point would be to contact support. There does seem to be a problem. Too much detail is never enough, and make sure and give a link to your blog, your username, and the email address you used to set up your blog.

Ryan just committed a fix for this. All should be good very shortly.
