png images for blog picture
-
Hi,
I have been trying to change my Blog Picture / Icon. I used jpeg files previously and didn’t have any trouble with them. They updated instantly. I’ve updated the icon to a png file as I want the background to be transparent. It looks like it is updating, but the icon on the web browser and address bar is now a tiny yellow speck. The image seems to have updated also in the blog icon corner of my website (top right) but im not sure why it is just a tiny little yellow speck on explorer 8 and doesnt even turn up on firefox.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
Any help would be great! Thanks! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

“the icon on the web browser and address bar is now a tiny yellow speck”
Your image is just a thin yellow line on a white background. What did you expect it to look like in a half-a-centimeter area? Try something else that will look ok when downsized that much.

Aide from selecting an image that scales well, these are the best practices for uploading your gravatar:
(1) Prepare the image prior to uploading it and make sure it’s no larger than 128 pixels X 128 pixels square.
(2) The image filetype has to be either PNG, GIF or JPG. Make sure the file name contains only letters and numbers – no special characters – and make sure all letters are in lowercase.
(3) Also make sure the image file name has an extension (Example – image.jpg)
(4) Note that there is a time delay while your gravatar image propagates.
If you are experiencing problems then go to the gravatar site and read the FAQs as it contains common questions and answers to them http://en.gravatar.com/site/faq/

Thanks for your reply panaghiotisadam. Well I did anticipate that something like this could happen and checked the size and quality prior to confirming any changes. The avatar size is exactly the same as the gravatar wordpress profile image next to “My account”.
When you have cropped the image, wordpress shows it to you in 3 different sizes. Even when it is downsized to that ratio, it is still perfectly visible on a transparent background – and is not the tiny speck that is showing on the avatar.
When I upload a jpeg image on a white background, it works perfectly fine.

Thanks for the response timethief. I had a look over these and tried to upload a new image with all those specs. Unfortunately the PNG files didn’t show properly. I’ve resorted to uploading a jpg file.
