podcast feed stopped working

WordPress +
Good afternoon. My podcast feed stopped working. I was posting on wordpress for the last several years, and each time iTunes would pull the podcast just fine into its download stream. I took a 2-month break from mid-September to mid-November, and now when I post a new audio file, it does not enter my iTunes podcast. Can you assist!?
Thank you,

Hi Ari,
Just to make sure I’m looking in the right place, I see your iTunes podcast feed here: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/ari-daniel/id304979474?mt=2
It looks like the last podcast there is from your post Loving math and mime, and your latest two posts aren’t being pulled into your iTunes feed. Does that sound right?
Also, just to check, did you follow the steps in our Podcasting guide to set up your podcast feed for iTunes?
And last questions: If you used that guide, what is the URL for your WordPress.com feed that you entered into Feedburner (step 5 in that guide) and what’s the URL for the Feedburner feed you submitted to iTunes (starting with feeds.feedburner.com, step 10 in that guide)?
That information will help me investigate this for you. :)

Thanks for your note. Yes, that’s the correct podcast feed that you found on iTunes. And yes, the last podcast that was pulled was “Loving math and mime” but the latest two posts have not been pulled into the feed.
I set the podcast up several years ago, so I’m not sure which guide I used at that time! But I believe I went through the steps that are laid out in the link you sent me.
I believe that the URL I used was my web address: http://aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/ Does that seem right? I’m not sure what the feedburner feed was that I submitted to iTunes. Do you know how I can figure that out?
Thank you!

Hi Ari,
If you used your general feed from your WordPress.com blog, that feed is here: http://aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/feed/
I’m hoping to double-check those feeds, because that could help us figure out why your latest posts aren’t making it into your iTunes feed. When I look at your blog’s feed, I can see your latest posts and the podcasts there, so it looks like everything is working the way it should on this end. If I can see your Feedburner feed, that might give us more information to work with. :)
You can log in to Feedburner to find a feed here: http://feedburner.google.com/
If you can grab your podcast’s feed URL from there, I’ll be happy to take a look and see what’s going on.

Thanks for your note. I just transferred my feed from ‘ashapiro’ to the following feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/aridanielshapiro
Does this help?

Hi Ari,
If you just created that as a new feed, that’s not quite what I was looking for. Sorry if my last message was confusing — I’m specifically interested in finding the feed you submitted to iTunes (the one iTunes should be using to grab new podcast episodes).
If you followed our Podcasting guide, that feed would be your Feedburner feed. But it’ll have to be the specific feed you submitted to iTunes, rather than a new feed. Otherwise, any troubleshooting or changes we make won’t actually be reflected in iTunes.
Once you find the feed you submitted to iTunes, you can use the iTunes troubleshooting steps to help figure out what’s going wrong: http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#troubleshooting
I’d be happy to look over your feed with you to see if I can help with that process. Just let me know if you have any questions about that.

Hi Ari,
We don’t currently offer phone support, but I am happy to keep discussing this here. How can I help?

Ok, here’s the feed that I believe I submitted to iTunes: http://aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/feed/
But after receiving your message, I changed my feed address from http://feeds.feedburner.com/ashapiro to http://feeds.feedburner.com/aridanielshapiro
And now I’m concerned that all previous subscribes to the old feed address will no longer be getting updates that I post on my blog.
In Feedburner, when I try to transfer the feed back to /ashapiro, it tells me that: “The URL “ashapiro” is already taken. Please choose another.”
What should I do?
Thanks!

Hi Ari,
Your iTunes feed looks like it’s still intact (although still missing the latest episodes, as mentioned before) here: https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/ari-daniel/id304979474?mt=2
Since your WordPress.com feed at http://aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/feed/ is up-to-date with your latest episodes, the issue is somewhere between there and iTunes. At this point, I don’t have the tools to pinpoint where the problem is happening, and I recommend following the troubleshooting steps listed here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#troubleshooting
You may also want to check with the iTunes Producing Podcasts forum here:
https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/producing_podcasts?forumID=1107
Because the error looks like it’s on the iTunes end, so it’s best to start investigating there. If it turns out that there’s an error in your WordPress.com feed that’s causing this issue, please let me know. I’d be happy to help investigate it for you.

Thank you for your email. Do you know how I can transfer my feed back to /ashapiro/ instead of /aridanielshapiro/ At the moment, it says “The URL “ashapiro” is already taken. Please choose another.”

Hi Ari,
Are you sure your feed was at ashapiro before? I see that there’s already a feed at ashapiro here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ashapiro
You may want to consult with the Feedburner help pages here: https://support.google.com/feedburner/
You may also need to contact Google for additional help with that. (Feedburner is a Google service and isn’t connected to WordPress.com.)

Your email was helpful. I took a look at the Info tab in iTunes for my podcast, and it says “Where: http://aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/feed/”
When I enter that address into my browser, I see the most recent episode I posted (A sweet solution). But it doesn’t show up in iTunes, which means it’s not downloading.
Is this an issue on the WordPress end or iTunes or feedburner? It may not be feedburner after all since 1) I think you’re right that my feed was not ashapiro before; it was aridanielshapiro — the same as now; 2) feedburner sent a note that said: ” Also, your old FeedBurner feed, found at feeds.feedburner.com, will automatically redirect traffic to its new address on the feeds2.feedburner.com domain.”

Hi Ari,
I’m so glad you were able to sort out the feeds. Based on what you mentioned here, it sounds like you submitted your WordPress.com feed (aridanielshapiro.wordpress.com/feed/) directly to iTunes.
For your feed to work correctly in iTunes, it needs to be formatted in a way that iTunes accepts. This is why we suggest using Feedburner and submitting the Feedburner feed to iTunes, according to the steps in this guide: Podcasting
Although we’re hoping to offer direct iTunes podcasting support at WordPress.com in the future, for now putting your feed through Feedburner makes sure that the feed you submit to iTunes meets all of their criteria and works properly there.

I believe that I’ve resolved the validation problem. Now when I insert my feed into feedvalidator.org, it says it’s a valid RSS feed.
However, the new episodes still aren’t downloading into iTunes. What do you think?

Hi Ari,
Even valid RSS feeds may not contain all of the information iTunes requires, which is why we suggest using the steps in this guide to prepare your feed before submitting it to iTunes: Podcasting
Not all of the details that iTunes requests are included in a regular WordPress.com feed, so your best bet is likely to use a service like Feedburner to prepare your feed and resubmit it to iTunes. That will help ensure the feed is fully compliant with iTunes requirements.
