Podcast Player

    Hello!

I am using my site as a platform for my podcast. I thought it was great when I saw that it had a podcast player. Now, I don’t think so.

Every time I upload a podcast episode to the podcast player, it shows the PREVIOUS EPISODE for about 24 hours, and then it changes to the correct one. So, by the time anyone reads this it will most likely have fixed itself.

Another problem with this is that it looks absolutely TERRIBLE on the newsletter that is sent out to subscribers! It is just a couple of links, which by the way, lead to the wrong episodes for 24 hours!

I am very displeased with this feature. If you have any way to fix it, please let me know.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Since not all email apps support embedded players, the email only containing a link is correct.

With that said, the new episode not showing for 24 hours definitely makes no sense.

Are you saying it appear that way on the site, like the new post has the old audio?

Or, are you saying it takes 24 hours for Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc, to update their listings?

I am saying that it appears on the site wrong.

  • That definitely doesn’t seem right.

The next time it happens, would you please reply here? We’ll be able to get to it in well under 24 hours, so we should be able to see the problem and address it.

    Hello!

I have created a new episode, and it still shows up as the previous episode! I haven’t published it, just because I wanted to test if it worked, and it doesn’t.

  • One thing to be aware of is that the Podcast player block was not intended for linking to single episodes, but instead it is meant to display “a listing of recent episodes from a podcast and play them on your website” as mentioned here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/podcast-player-block/

If you enter an anchor.fm URL for a specific episode, the player is not able to display that, and instead displays the most recent episode from your Podcasts feed. This is why the player for all your published blog posts (past and present) show your most recent Anchor.fm episode “Kimberly Brubaker Bradley on Publishers” in the player, regardless of the episode-specific URL you added.

We do not have a block that is able to embed specific Anchor.fm episodes, so instead you may wish to add a “listen now” button to your blog posts, which will allow site visitors to listen directly on Anchor.fm. https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/buttons-block/
