Podcast RSS Feed 301 Redirect
-
Is is possible to add a 301 redirect just to my podcast RSS feed URL to point to a new host without a plugin or upgrading my WordPress plan? I’m not leaving WordPress, just need to host audio media someplace else, so the redirect is just for the podcast RSS feed not my entire site. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
We show how to set up an RSS feed for your podcast in our guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/audio/podcasting/
A podcast is a series of audio episodes that people can listen to and follow. Using the steps in this guide, you can host your podcast on your WordPress.com site and make the episodes available for listeners in Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, Pocket Casts and other podcasting apps. Podcasting Video Tutorial Are you a visual learner and want to get a head start on setting up your poThis will allow you to embed your podcast audio (along with show notes, links, and/or any other text you want to include) into a blog post, and assign your “podcast category” to the post. This will add it to your RSS feed URL so you can share it with Apple Podcast and other services.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hello, staff-totoro. That’s not what I asked. The article you linked to is what I am already doing, so no it didn’t help. Because of storage limitations of my current plan, I need to host the audio media someplace else. So my podcast will soon have a different RSS feed than the one supplied by WordPress. I will still be blogging here but I need to add a 301 redirect to my current podcast RSS feed at WordPress so my current subscribers’ feeds will keep working automatically. I cannot afford to upgrade my plan to $40 a month and all the plugins I’ve found so far that can put the redirect on my RSS feed require an upgrade.

Thanks for clarifying, we do not have a way set up that kind of redirect, but also that is not needed in this case.
To be sure I understand your current process, you publish each new episode in your podcast as a new blog post, and in each individual post you include show notes, links, and an embed of the audio of the podcast, yes?
That is what I am seeing here for example: https://sagewoman.life/2023/06/21/language-is-important/
And it is what is powering this podcast feed: https://sagewoman.life/category/podcast/
If I have that right, the only thing you need to change in that process is how you embed your audio. Typically when you select the Audio Block you are given the option to upload your audio (which you are encouraged to do if you have storage space) but you also have the option to “Insert from URL”

For each audio file (episode) you upload with your new podcast media host, you should get a “media URL” which is a direct link to the file to download. You can add that URL in the Audio Block settings, and this will embed the audio in your blog posts, same as it does for audio you upload natively to your site.
This will keep things working at https://sagewoman.life/category/podcast/ without any changes, and each new episode for your pod will go out each time you publish a blog post to that category.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
