Hi,
I own a domain name already, which I want to use for a new podcast.
I am confused about a couple of things.
1. are all versions of wordpress – free, business, premium, etc – able to support podcast hosting or do some lack the plug-ins or whatever that are needed?
2. Even when I go to create a free website, it is saying that I am ordering premium for £84 and it won’t let me change it! What’s that all about?

The short answer is: “Yes, there is a way to use WordPress.com as a podcasting website”
The longer answer is more of a question: “Yes you can, but it depends on what specifically your site plans are. Can you talk a little more about them?”
This is a great place to start for podcasting info on WordRress.com:

The two main options are that you can use an Anchor.fm account to integrate with WordPress.com (and there is a great little video on how to do that). Or you can upload audio files to WordPress.com and “host” your podcast that way.
Now, say that you wanted to use something like the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin on WordPress.com. You’d want to purchase the WordPress.com Business plan so that you could install plugins.
