Podcasting media options not available

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve tried to launch a podcast by linking to an mp3 file, using the category/tag podcast, and using feedburner, but when I try to submit it to itunes I keep getting the “We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed” error message.

I looked back through the help pages and the forums, which mention a media option within the settings dashboard to update all the necessary itunes info. However, this option doesn’t seem to be available for me – within the settings menu I only have the options general, writing, discussion, and analytics (need to upgrade the plan to access this one).

Without being able to change any of this information feedburner has generated the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/wordpress/martesatthemovies but it’s clearly not sufficient.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out asap, using the most simple terminology possible. I’ve spent two days straight just trying to sort this issue out and am very frustrated, I really don’t want all my hard work on the audio for the podcast itself to go to waste!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

This is your feed URL for all posts http://martesathemovies.wordpress.com/feed/
There will be nothing that can be displayed in the feed URL until your publish posts.

I have no knowledge of how to podcast other than what’s found here https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/

If you have been using that guide and still have issues please type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff assistance. Then to subscribe to this thread so you are notified when Staff respond look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Thanks for answering so quickly, but perhaps I’ve explained the situation badly- I’ve already posted two posts but they don’t seem to appear in the Fred.

I have indeed been following the podcasting guide as linked above, but the problem arises with the media settings that it tell me to alter- from my dashboard there are no media settings for me to alter. Within settings the only options are those I listed… General, writing, and discussion. Without being able to access media settings I can’t edit my podcast settings. Is this a problem with my dashboard or how can it be fixed?

I’ve read all the help pages there are relating to podcasts, so if you were able to perhaps pass my query on to a member of staff with more experience podcasting then that would be brilliant, thank you

I see two posts in the feed and their attached media files https://martesathemovies.wordpress.com/feed/

    They are:
Ep 1 – Best Original Song nominees which should have won the Oscar

    Hello one, hello all

If you cannot see them please clear your browser cache

If you are not running a browser and version of it found here http://browsehappy.com please upgrade.

Yep, OK. Thank you, I can see the posts. What about the missing media settings option in the dashboard? I can take a screenshot of my dash if that would help to show the problem.

I can take a screenshot of my dash if that would help to show the problem.

Will you provide a screenshot for Staff please? I’ll tag this thread for their attention. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

    Hi @brionyconway,

The setting you’re looking for should be found here:

    https://martesathemovies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-media.php

When I scroll down to the bottom of the page, I see that option as shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/1exda

Can you let me know if you see the category option there? If not, can you upload a screenshot of what you do see here?

    @jeremeylduvall you’re brilliant, thank you!

Is that an updated dashboard? I can’t think why I didn’t find that version of settings beforehand – Truly thought I’d exhausted all my options!

The only little issue I’m having now is that itunes is listing my podcast as having no author, despite having set my name as the author of all the blog posts. Any idea how to get around that?

Thanks so much for your help!

Strangely enough when I tested the podcast out in itunes by subscribing to it and downloading the first episode my name does show up as the author. Does this mean that in all likelihood the podcast will carry my name as author when it’s in the itunes store even though it’s showing it as unknown on the submission screen?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

I believe the author should be coming through on the podcast episodes. Here’s what I see when I load the podcast feed in my iTunes:

    http://d.pr/i/16hXw

So, this should also appear in the iTunes store. Can you try submitting it and let me know if you experience otherwise?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey – That’s also what I see when I subscribe to the podcast feed, but when I try to submit it this is what I see

For some reason it continues to show up as unknown author. Do you think that this is just a glitch and that it’ll show up with my name in the store? Should I just go ahead and submit it like this?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Briony!

It looks like this may be an issue with how we’re specifying the author tag for the channel. We’re looking into fixing this up and making sure we have the correct markup in place. However, in the meantime, you should be all good to submit. This will automatically fix itself once you publish a new episode after we get this fixed.

Also, just a note, it looks like you were using an HTTPS version of your image here under “Podcast Image”:

    https://martesathemovies.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-media.php

I went ahead and updated that to HTTP. You shouldn’t notice anything different, but just wanted to let you know!
