Podcasting Question

I have seen this question asked in a few other posts, but most of these topics are at least a year or two old and were unresolved at the time. I am using WordPress to host my site and podcast, which is currently available on iTunes. I have done everything correctly, using feedburner and the iTunes instructions, and everything is working fine except for this one problem, which is kind of awful: My episode titles don’t display. At all. Each episode shows up correctly, and contains the episode summary (hosts, guests, song listings) where it should be. But instead of the titles of the posts or files (which are so simple: “Episode 1” “Episode 2” and so on), each episode is titled “dirtydouglasradio” which is my wordpress username. This looks pretty awful and I would love to fix it if there’s a way.
    The site: http://dirtydouglasradio.wordpress.com
    The original feed: http://dirtydouglasradio.wordpress.com/category/dirty-douglas-radio-the-podcast/feed/
    The feedburner feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/dirtydouglas

Thanks so much in advance for anyone who can offer assistance, it is very much appreciated.

  • I just checked and your episode titles display perfectly. Could you perhaps include a screenshot of what you’re seeing? http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ Paste your screenshot in http://snag.gy/ and then paste the URL here so we can see how it looks for you.

I should say that I don’t use iTunes at all so I’ve had no idea whether or not it’s been working right – if it is, that’s awesome news. The podcasting application I use on my Android phone is supposed to get its data directly from the iTunes store and THAT’s where I’ve been seeing this problem, so I just assumed to would be happening elsewhere as well. My phone doesn’t take screenshots, but I took a few pictures of myself scrolling through the menu: http://snag.gy/fuhu9.jpg
    Thanks!

  • Okay, no. On the blog it shows the episode number as post title, and I imagine it would on the WordPress app as well. Here’s how the posts display on the category archive on your blog: http://snag.gy/1YiOY.jpg

  • It sounds like this problem is restricted to your podcasting app, so perhaps see if it doesn’t have a support forum of its own.

I’m only asking on here because I have seen a bunch of posts from people in the past who had the same problem, and it happened in iTunes for them. After poking around some more, I think it may have something to do with Gravatar? The answer to the question from another topic was that the metadata from any image files attached to each individual post was getting mixed up as the post title in certain podcast aggregators. I don’t have any post-specific images, but I noticed on my category archive (which is where my feed draws from) this avatar image is listed as attached media for every post. I have a hunch that if I could figure out how NOT to have that happen, that would solve the problem, but as far as I can see my username and gravatar don’t show up on the posts at all so I don’t know what to do about it.
