Podcasting with iTunes, wp.com vs self-hosting

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I host my own wordpress blog. I followed the rules (https://codex.wordpress.org/Podcasting), I have a post for each podcast episode, with the mp3 url inside, simple vanilla WordPress stuff. The RSS feed is okay but lacks iTunes specific stuff (itunes:image, etc.).

Problem is: without this, I cannot add my podcast to iTunes. :/

In wp.com there are more options (https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/): “Settings > Media > Podcasting”. This is not available in self-hosted WordPress. How can I get it?

I looked for podcasting plugins but they are all too complicated, adding specific post types and everything… I just want to add the itunes specific fields in my RSS.

    HALP! :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • @remouk,

Have you tried to ask on the WordPress.ORG forum if they know any plugin/solutions for that?
Since you own a self-hosted website, I think this is the best place where to find an easy solution.
If you don’t have a username at that forum, you’ll need to register before posting.

There will be definitely someone who can help you out with that! Meanwhile, I hope someone from this forum as well will be able to suggest you something :)

    Thanks for your answer!

I thought about that too, but since the feature is from WordPress.com, and I can’t find it anywhere on WordPress.org, I figured the staff or someone from here would be more able to help me.

  • If there’s someone around here who has an answer for you, they’ll surely stop by. I suggested the .org forum because they might have come up with something “mutuated’ from the .com side, if that makes sense to you :)

    You’re right, I’ll go there too! I hope someone will know… :D

One and last up… No one here to help me?

    I’m sure the staff knows… :(

  • Hey there,

Have you posted on the WordPress.org forum?

Since your website is built using the .ORG software, I’m not quite sure people here can help you out with that, if somebody hasn’t replied yet :(

Yes I did, we talked about it just above. ;)

I’m very surprised no one here from the staff, knows or wants to say which plugin they are using… It shouldn’t be a secret or something only .com should have… :/

    Thanks for the answer anyway.

  • @remouk this is a forum when people help each other, so I don’t really think it’s a matter of keeping secrets :)

Staff is not entitled to know this kind of matter as it’s a subject more related to plugins = WordPress.ORG forum. There may be someone who perhaps know it, but there’s no guarantee over that, if you see what I mean.

Your problem can be an interesting feature to add on the .ORG system though, so I’d recommend you to insist on this since you’re not maybe the only one who’s trying to solve that!

I get what you mean, but well it’s something available on .com and nowhere to be seen in the .org or the plugins repository, that’s why I’ve been asking here and it’s pretty obvious someone on the staff knows it, or at least can ask around to find the answer.

I agree with you, it should be a feature in .org, I don’t understand why it’s not… And I guess we’ll never know! :D

Maybe one day someone with the answer will reply here.
